Lake Martin Noating Accident Victim Identified

An Auburn resident was killed Friday night in a three-boat collision on Lake Martin, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

David George Goodling, 56, was killed in the crash near the Ridge Marina, Capt. Gary Buchanan, the patrol commander of the ALEA's Marine Patrol, said Saturday morning.

An unidentified person was injured and transported to a local hospital, Buchanan said, and the ALEA continued to investigate the cause of the collision Saturday morning.

Updated yesterday afternoon from wsfa...sad situation.  Could have been much worse if more people were in the boats.  Wonder if they were trying to go under the bridge in the same section?

The injured person (who left scene of accident and failed to report it is in deep  “ S” as he should be . I hope he loses his boating license for life.  Of course alcohol was a factor, still no excuse!??????

But, do we know he is the one that caused the accident?  We don't know who consumed the alcohol.  It's a sad thing all they way around. There are so many unsnswered questions, the answeres to which will likely not be made public.  But in any event it's a reminder that boating and alcohol don't mix.

Makes no difference who caused the accident.  He left and failed to check on fellow boater and failed to report the accident, yet was able to call a friend. All around sad , yes!  Irresponsible, hell yes!

The report of alcohol related came very early. Not likely that a corpse would have been tested that quickly.

The article said "evidence in both boats indicated alcohol was involved".  So I think the visual appearance of containers told them what they needed to know didnt need blood test.
