My wife and her sister are interested in kayaking to Goat Island. Where would a good place to be to launch from her truck?

Anchor Bay Marina has been suggested. That seems like a long way. I'm curious if anyone knows abouth the "unnamed road" that ends just a little way across from where the goats are. Is it dirt? Safe?

I can't help you with good places to launch but given the volume of boat traffic in that area they need to be very careful.  I frankly would not do that on a weekend, especially if it is summertime.

As a regular LM kayaker, I agree don't try it on the weekend til after Labor Day.

Not sure of the name but the Montgomery Police Dept used to have a day park in that area accessed off of Hwy 50. May want to check with them about public access. less than 0.5 miles by water to Goat Island the same to the dam.

If you check Google Maps, you'll find a road with no name just east of Cherokee Heights road (off 50).  If you get ot Griffin Hall Road, you missed it (I think Griffin Hall is the camp on 50).  The no name road may be a private road, doesn't seam to be any development, I would recommend a trial recon trip.  Dopson Point Road will get you close but there may not be any place to launch without tresspassing.  Finally, I have seen people & vehicles under the power lines.  Andrews Mill Road will get you there but is's a longer trip on open water.  Let us know if you have a successful trip.  Good Luck.
