It is tragic and horrible that 20 people in El Paso will never celebrate another birthday, not attend their children's graduation, not complain about the cost of their daughter's wedding, not attend their grandkid's christening, not be nervous on the first day of school!  They all need our thoughts and prayers...but the deserve a lot more!  This shooting occured in Texas!  I think there will be 100% agreement on this forum that Texas is not a state where especially restrictive gun laws are on the books.  If there is anyplace in the nation where one can safely assume that there will to be a lot of armed patrons in a Walmart, it is El Paso, TX!  So, dammit, what happened to all those ''Good guys with guns'' that so many on this forum insist will make us safer?

El Paso then less than 20 hours later comes Dayton.  A shooter kills 9 and wounds 26 in 30 seconds before he is, thankfully, killed by police!  How many would if have been if he had as much time as El Paso?

domestic terrorism. The terrorist in this case used exactly the same rhetoric as #45: an "invasion" by Hispanics.

Until Congress does its Constitutional duty and holds the tyrant accountable for his high crimes and misdemeanors, this will only continue to worsen. Those who do not recognize that terrorism by white supremacists is an existential threat to our values and to our country are both deluding themselves and enabling the terrorists.

Until Congress does its Constitutional duty and passes sensible laws on immigration which it has not done in over 30 years, there will continue to be numerous unnecessry and unwanted "tragedies" such a this. Democrats do not want responsible "laws" on immigration because that will limit their ability to add to their voter rolls.

reform law that had the bi-partisan support of a majority of both houses of congress AND of individual No!  But, TAA DAA....the T party nuts made it plain it did not have their support and....are you ready for it...individual No 1 changed his mind and Moscow Mitch made it clear it would never see the light of day.  Check it out!  Also remember that the Repubs controlled all of congress and the Oval Office for 719 days from Jan 20, 2017 until Jan 1, 2019.  So who deserves the blame Buteye?  HUH?

Now Buteye re-read your own post.  It reads as if you saying that Hispanic immigrants had more to do with this event than individual No 1 or the rightwing nut case supporter of individual No 1 who pulled the trigger.  Is that you intention?  Oh by the way...back to the original question, where were all those ''good guys with guns''?

Well before that one Wixie poo.  Of course even on that that one Dear Leader told Diane Feinstein to her face sitting in the Oval Office (It's on tape by the way), ''bring me whatever bill you all agree on and I will sign it.''   Surprise, surprise, surprise!  He reneged on that promise too.

Damn, some of you folks really can't stand hearing the truth can you?

Yep, here we go on gun control.  We won't talk about mental illness, hate, internet websites that allow hate speech, white nationalism and what is behind that, or why our elected officials have failed us in straightening out the immigration laws.  The media will blame Trump, but he is only one man, so we won't talk about this deep hatred and distrust that some of his comments are tapping into.  We won't talk about violent video games and what mental affect they may be having on young people; we won't talk about those who hear hate speech or see threatening posts, but do nothing because they don't either believe it, or they don't want to get involved.  The media surely won't talk about their role in breeding hated and division of our country.  They will talk about the shooter and who he is, and what he said on social media, and the kind of gun he used, etc - perhaps encouraging another would be shooter.  They will rail against the 2nd Amendment, but they won't talk about the responsiblity that goes along with the 1st Amendment.  They will grill hospital official to tell us about the grusome injuries and how many more are more likely to die, and they will be sure to let us know about the bodies laying where they fell.

I just heard some stupid black woman on CNN raging about "double barrel magazines" and said that you can't be mentally ill and drive 10 hours to kill or that you can't don a bulletproof vest and have an AR and a pistol.  That's the kind of stupidity the news will dwell on.  But the truth?  No, we won't talk about that.  The news media is as responsible as anything else in spreading white nationalism and hated, distrust and racism, but they won't talk about.  And if anyone tries to, they'll be shunned because they don't want to hear about responsibility and the first Amendment.

Do you think you think it is sane to drive 10 hours to kill people in a Walmart?  Do you think it is sane to done tactical gear and kill people in an entainment area?  But let's not talk about mental illness.  Let's talk about guns.  Funny, the guns in this house have never just started shooting.

Architect, you should really be ashamed of yourself for this post.

Try listening to the Mayor of El Paso.  Rather than waste keystrokes I will sum it up:  El Paso was a safe town where nobody felt the NEED to carry!  Just like I didn't feel the need to carry in Montgomery but Dayton changed my mind.  The two cities are about the same size, so if it could happen Dayton it can happen in Montgomery.

Just got back from Academy where I bought a concealed carr holster. It is an inconvenience to carry but if some crazy is going to scatter my brains on a Walmart floor it won't be without by trying to stop him or her.

And, Archie, explain why Chicago, with some of the strictest gun laws in the country, has such a horrendous record of shootings, many resulting in death?

The Genie is out of the bottle and even if there was the political will to disarm the nation I fear the full meaning of the second amendment might have to be exercised. That is not a threat of any sort to any person, just a realization that there are many who feel very  strongly about second amendment rights and would have to be forced to give them up.

And I agree with Hound, yours is a pretty rotten post, but not unexpected considering your continual rants.

Talullahhound, probably your best "post" out of many. The "media" does nothing but exacerbate situations such as those in El Paso and Dayton. They are a cruel bunch doing nothing but adding to the "hate" that is arising from the many tragedies we are witnessing across our country today. They never give any praise to the many law enforcement personnel that "risk" their lives on a daily basis. It seems that about the only time these "warriors" receive any credit for the services they provide our communities occurs at the local level in the area where I live. I have seen many occasions where the local police have stepped in to turn a young persons "birthday" into a happy event or provide many other "positive inputs" that otherwise would have resulted in an unhappy ending.

but, people who are not crazy also don't want to sell guns to otherwise ''sane'' people who think they are doing what is expected of them because of words intended otherwise from a so called leader.  The people who are up in arms about any hint of reasonable restrictions on digital media are the same people who are opposed to ANY restriction on guns. Some peole are just ''crazy'' enough to think there is no need to sell weapons designed to kill people to people who have no business in killing people (that is to say, those not part of a ''well regulated militia''), 94% of the people think ALL gun sales should include a background check and waiting period.  For God sake let's at least be sure those on the No Fly List are also on the No Guns List!

Now Hound, what about my original question...where were all those ''good guys with guns'' at that El Paso Walmart?

You mention Chicago and their gun conrol laws, but Baltimore is even more interesting. Maryland also has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Since Baltimore has been a hot topic in the news lately, I found some interesting information relative to their homicides there. Murders occur so frequently in Baltimore that the number of homicides in the city is higher than the number in Phliadelpha, even though Philadelphia has two and a half times the population. Baltimore sees more murders than New York City and Chicago, despite an "assault weapons ban", a "high capacity" magazine ban, and special fingerprinting and reporting requirements on handgun sales. In 2017, Baltimore "set a new per capita homicide record" for roughly 56 killings per 100,000 people.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             The violence in Baltimore has been  so rempant that a fourth facility was built with $43.6 million in taxpayer money in 2010 to hold the dead before autopsies could be performed. In 2016, it cost the city $344,000 to perform autopsies on homicide victimes. It cost the city another  $3.3 million to bury them. For bodies that weren't claimed by family, they were give to medical science and then cremated. The cost of cremation is borne by the state. Baltimore was named the "most dangerous city in America" in 2017. According to data analyzed, the overwhelming majority of guns used in Baltimore's homicides in 2017 were illegally possessed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   What is it going to take for people to understand that the "major cities" in the United States with the highest number of "homicides" are governed by Democrats and the same is true for the  "major cities" that have turned into refuges for the "homeless" and are also "sanctuary" cities.

I was trying to say that it doesn't matter how restrictive gun laws are in one area as long as neighboring areas are wide open to anybody buying a gun.  In AL, MS, and GA almost anybody, including thugs from Chicago, can easily buy a gun meaning there will be guns in Chicago.  Many places have stricter gun regulations than we do here in the south, but strict regulations are useless as long as you can ''go across the line'' and get armed.  In the not to distant past we had s lot of holier than thou ''dry'' counties next door to more realistic ''wet'' counties.  Invariably the dry counties had just as many drunks as their wet neighbors.

Now, what is nonsensical about that?

After all every murder infested (rat infested too for that matter) are within a state which also has a government politically controlled by one or the other party.

Guess which state has the highest murder rate (at least in 2017 which is the last year with available stats)?  Nope not CA or NY and not AL (but 'Bamas not far behind).  LA (the state not the city)...Today LA now has one statewide office held by a rather right of center Democrat, but in 2017 it was top to bottom ruby red including the legislature!  OOPS

Most of the top 11 states with the highest murder rates are red as a tomato.

RANK            STATE

1/                 LA     red

2/                 MO    red

3/                 NV    blue

4/                 MD    blue

5/                 AR     red

6/                 AK     red

7/                 AL     red

8/                 MS    red

9-11/            IL/SC/TN (tie)  Blue/red/red

RED WINS 8 to 3!!!

How ever is this possible Buteye?

That you choose Alabama. Mississippi, and Georgia to make your point.  Had you said "many states with less strict laws" it might have made sense.  I strongly suspect a scant few of the firearms used in crimes in Chicago come from this area.  Can't say they don't any more than you can say they do.  But face it, gun control laws only affect law abiding citizens like me, and hopefully you. The lawless will find a way to get their hands on heat, no matter where it comes from.

The problem with the way it is today those who plan to become ''lawless'' can buy a gun as easily as you and me and outside gunshows those who are already ''lawless'' can easily and legally buy a firearm.  Sure, if we close the loopholes the ''lawless'' will still get guns (although that has not proved true in Australia), but at least it might be a little more difficult, time consuming and espensive.  Both the El Paso and Dayton shooters legally purchased the gun which destroyed the lives of 29 people, directly changed the lives of 57 others and indirectly effected the lives of hundreds perhaps thousands.

Seems to me the Dims are responsible for most of the over-the-top rhetoric.  How about Tlaib dancing around and shouting that we should impeach “the M—- F—-er?  What about all the progressive liberal types comparing Trump to Hitler, harassing known conservatives at dinner until they have to leave restaurants with their meal unfinished.  The nasty rhetoric goes on full tilt from Dims 24, 7, 365!  And the Hollywood liberals are the worst — they love nothing better than being in the spotlight, so they just go on and on with hateful comments and analogies, etc.  Did you know this is one of the tactics used so effectively by Hitler on the people of Germany to get them to attack the Jews?  They dehumanized them with constant cartoons, speeches, newspaper articles, etc. by portraying them as less than human, having evil tendencies, taking money from the German people, you name it.

I’m certainly not a fan of New Agey Marianne Williamson, but her admonishment to the Dims that dark psychic forces are coming into play sure seems to be coming true.

So what you are saying is that in a heavy democrat state that they do not care about laws, and will find a way around them to be able to commit crime?

So lets add more laws so criminals can find another way around them or steal them and nothing changes.  So instead of punishing the criminal for breaking the law(s) lets blame everything and everyone else for someone going around the laws.

Typical Archi - lets put the blame everywhere but where it belongs.

Murder is illegal, stealing is illegal, most drugs are illegal...

On social media, the suspect’s biography started to emerge. On his Twitter page, reviewed by Heavy, he described himself as “he/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / i’m going to hell and i’m not coming back.” He wrote on Twitter that he would happily vote for Democrat Elizabeth Warren, praised Satan, was upset about the 2016 presidential election results, and added, “I want socialism, and i’ll not wait for the idiots to finally come round to understanding.” You can read a roundup of his tweets – which also dealt with Parkland, Florida and 9/11 – here and later in this article.

Sounds more like just another unhinged leftist spoonfed your talking points to me then where you wanted this to go.

The other had in HS a rape/kill list.

Both seem to be about 4 cans short of a six pack/ fries & pie short of a happy meal/whole bubble off plumb.
