Furthermore, you OWN every bullet thet comes out of your firearm. You should be able to say, "Yes, that is my bullet."

Dont give the libtards any ideas they wanted to have bullets microstamped or some other such identifiers years ago that would have made bullets much more expensive thus pricing bullets out of the hands of many of the poor / middle class - gun control by another name.

https://www.guns.com/news/2017/08/09/new-bill-bans-pistol-sales-unless-they-can-microstamp-their-bullets

Not only that but if your bullets are stolen and used in the commission of a crime you better have reported each bullet missing just as you would a firearm otherwise you could be held responsible.

What about people who cast their own bullets? Will we have to purchase a little stamp and stamp each bullet?

Do Democrats get these ideas from the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy?

Phil, you are quibbling.

I am quite certain that you know… or should know… that I meant. “Whoever fires a bullet owns it.” The owner of a handgun cannot possibly be responsible for projectiles fired from someone who possesses his/her firearm without his/her permission.

Now… if I LEND, SELL, or GIVE anyone a firearm… KNOWING that such person has displayed a propensity for violence, or is a felon, or is otherwise unauthorized to possess a firearm… THEN, I become culpable.

If one has a firearm stolen, he/she is obligated to report it and provide the serial number and description of such firearm.

I MEAN TO SAY THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS THE CONSEQUENCES OF CRIMINAL ACTS… NOT GO AFTER LEGAL ARMS OWNERSHIP.

PS: A rifled barrel inscribes a inique pattern into every bullet fired.  Matching a bullet to a praticular firearm is old forensic science... assuming a) the bullet can be found and b) the bullet survived impact.

The truth is that laws and longer sentences will not mean anything to those that perpetrate crimes with guns.  Robbing people at gun point, homicides, gang related shootings  - these people don't care about their prison sentences.  And in the case of mass shootings, I think they assume they will be killed or plan to kill themselves.

If these killings are not due to mental illness, then there is a behavioral issue.  With our overcrowded prisons - it doesn't appear that going to prison is not a deterrent to crimes.

The system needs to enforce the gun laws that are already on the books - something that is not being done.  More laws won't change a thing.

Did you hear that the El Paso shooter's mom warned the authorities 2 weeks before the shootings?

As someone who does cast various bullets - I am not stamping them, that affects ballistics - let alone sending them off to some company to microstamp or add additional fillers to be traceable.

The bullet is part of the equation, the case is another - both have unique fingerprints when used in a gun ( scratches, ejection marks etc) basically a fingerprint.

I was aware of where you were with the statement, and 100% agree that just as with anything such as a car, bullet, hammer, frisbee once you put it into motion you own it till it is in a resting state and not harmful to anyone.

But since we "register" cars, and they would love to create a gun "registry" they have in the past also proposed basically a bullet registry of ownership through microstamping and adding fillters to bullets that are unique which would require each bullet to basically be registered creating a massive headache has been proposed in the past - just wanted to point it out and its obvious problems with logistics since we were on the topic of "ownership"

Actually it was apparently not so much a warning as a call about was it legal for him to own it and concerns about was he mature enough for it (AK style)

Going back to Hound's points as well - I am not sure it is mental or behavioral - I think that some of these are going to come down to political.  Some of them are using the AR platform/assault rifles not because of the weapon itself or how fast it shoots, or how many can be killed.  I think in the minds of some of these idiots, by using it and killing as many as they can they think they will force the issue of gun control when otherwise it would not be brought up.  It does not take much to go from looking at relaxing gun laws to we have to ban anything with more the 5 bullets that can shoot as fast as your finger can pull - just look at how quickly we have went from supressors/silencers to back to turn them in / kick in the door of non-criminals to collect "weapons of war"

You can see this now with the statements being put out that legislation will be drawn up and voted on by labor day.  Background checks and red flag laws will be passed.  Politicians are running for cover of look we passed something - regardless of if it will help, or more importantly would have stopped any of these individuals from doing harm.

Most of the recent shooters passed background checks to purchase, few were stolen or taken from others.  So lets make every gun transaction require someone to call for a background check or require that before you can hand your shotgun down to a child or grandchild that you have to go through a firearm dealer for your child/grandchild to have a background check - that the recent shooters also passed.

I say lets have a national firearm picture ID - you can apply as you do a carry permit(at no cost) and can be revoked if you are a criminal or have a mental illness or prescribed drugs for mental illness, if you have your card you can buy whatever/how much you want.  While we are at limiting our "rights" lets also create that national voter picture ID with the same restrictions and spells out what political races you are allowed to vote in.
