well it looks like alabama power is in a money grab. new info out says january 1 , permit of 200 bucks is required to make repair on your own pier.  when l complained, l was told al. power was staying in line with other states on hydro dam charges.  isnt it funny that every state around us has a lottery but al. doesnt want it here, yet when there is money to grab and other states are doing it alabama for sure wants to join in with them. lets see we clean the lake for them, we manage the lake front of our property for them, we lease power co. land tracts for hunting from them,  we put up sea walls to prevent errosion for them and now we have to pay them to fix or maintain your own pier.  they say we havent had an increase in fees since 2005. why should there be an increase on something l own and pay for to keep up. therenever has been a charge to repair and maintain my pier.  on top of that l think a 60 per cent increase in the other fees is ridiculous. oh by the way did l forget to say we also buy power from them too. just had an increase in that as well.  what a sweet deal you have alabama power. your trying to turn martin into lake lanier.

No problem with fee increase on new/additional construction,  agree with you on fee just to replace worn out boards.  They are providing a beautiful lake for us live on.  There is a cost to that.  Apply before Jan and you won’t have a problem, I am.

2 years ago, I had my dock resurfaced with composite material.  They left me some kind of notice, but I disregarded it because I did not make any changes to my dock other than the surface.  I don't care so much about the money, but when you don't make any changes, other than a new surface, I'm not sure why that would require their approval.  When we built our boathouse, they approved our plan and then came back and argued with the architect and made him make additional modifications. They are not the easiest people to deal with.

to be very accommodating when asked about projects in advance.  Most the time no permit was required.  The idiotic things that some people attempt have been shocking and I’m glad they can enforce the rules designed to protect the rest of property owners!

I have no problem with APCO's regulations or fees.  They do a great job keeping Lake Martin clean. And, we have some of the lowest power rates in the country.  I had a rougue floating dock find it's way into my slough. I called APCO and after a little paperwork they arranged to have it towed and disposed, at their expense.  It was a very prompt response.

Perhaps things have changed now.  My architectual plans were submitted and approved, and then AP came back and wanted additional changes.  But in the end, we got our boathouse built.  Maybe it was just a bad time

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe on Lake Lanier you pay an annual lease or fee for docks etc in the lake bed. Thankfully we do not.

Trust me you don’t want to be anywhere around a CoE run lake.  Only floating docks, high rent for dock, lake levels strictly at CoE whims. Terrible.
