Should taxpayers have to fund sanctuary cities problems ?

Residents of sanctuary cities must fund 100% of their stupidity.  Period.

Alabama is 5th on the list of the states most dependent on the Federal Government while CA is 35th. You need to worry about your own state and quit worrying about everyone else.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the question.

The subject line and the question in the OP are unrelated. FYI, California taxpayers send a lot more money to Washington than the state receives in federal funding, as do the taxpayers in most blue states. Alabama, OTOH, receives far more in federal funding than its taxpayers pay out in federal tax. Most other red states are in the same situation.

So the real question is, do you think federal taxpayer money should be spent propping up broke-ass red states that refuse to take care of their own citizens and instead line the pockets of the criminals - er, "businessmen" - who run those state governments?

I don't see the current homeless/drug conditions existing in Alabama or any of the other "red" states.

"I don't see the current homeless/drug conditions existing in Alabama or any of the other "red" states."

Let me make sure I understand your position: you agree with me that the question in the OP is unrelated to the thread subject, right? If so, then we're discussing issues that are driven by poverty. Immigration is not part of the discussion.

If the above is correct, then you're kidding, right? You'd have to be willfully ignorant not to see the conditions in Alabama that lead directly to homelessness, poverty, crime, and addiction. Alabama has 3.4 times as many drug overdose deaths per 100,000 population as California, and Alabama has a 17% higher rate of violent crime than CA. CA does have more homeless than AL, at least in reported numbers, but one of the big problems with states like AL is that they do do a generally poor job of reporting statistics like this.

The fact is that CA residents send more money to Washington than Washington spends in CA, while the situation is exactly the opposite in AL: they receive more federal funding than their citizens pay in federal taxes. The question in the OP is premised on an outright lie.

Let me know what city in Alabama is having poop issues so bad that it needs an app to help people avoid locations.

I doubt there are very many homeless around where you hang out Buteye, but If you do not think there is homelessness and other social problems in some areas of AL and every red state, you are, as I suggested earlier, delusional.

If you do not think there is an opioid drug problem in AL you are either doubly delusional or living in a cave!

"Let me know what city in Alabama is having poop issues so bad that it needs an app to help people avoid locations."

I'll see your "city" and raise you a state: Scientists think Alabama's sewage problem has caused a tropical parasite. The state has done little about it.

Here's a quote: "Close to a third of Lowndes households report having sewage back up into their homes or pool in open areas in the past year, according to a small survey of residents conducted in May by the Alabama Department of Public Health. And the problem isn’t limited to Lowndes; a quarter of the state’s 850,000 private onsite septic systems are failing, according to a 2015 infrastructure report by the American Society of Civil Engineers."

Alabama is more like a third world country than a state in the US. You guys are deluding yourselves if you think the quality of life in California isn't much better.

I was recently in Sacramento ; my hotel was 8 blocks from the STATE Capital ,  however when I asked the LYFT driver to drive by before he dropped me at the hotel, he said he would go within 2 blocks but no closer due to the high risk of being car jacked !

Though disposing of waste through a straight pipe is illegal, most of the people who resort to such methods cannot afford to install a septic system, and in large areas in the Black Belt, most septic systems would not work anyway. The Alabama Department of Public Health has decreased emphasis on fining offenders and instead is focused on finding workable solutions to the issue.

The sanitation issues in the Black Belt drew worldwide media attention in 2017, when a team from the United Nations toured the area and said conditions there were “very uncommon in the First World.”

https://statisticalatlas.com/county/Alabama/Lowndes-County/Race-and-Ethnicity

So people in Lowndes Co are breaking the law by running straight pipe sewage out on the ground - To think you are picking literally the 2nd highest black population in the state of Alabama, and probably more importantly an area which votes democrat - something that they have in common with California maybe?

You pick a democratic run, high minority, some of the poorest people in the state to make your arguement - that people pooping in the street of such a wonderful, caring, better educated, higher paid population, diverse, send more taxes to washington then it receives location is just as bad as one of the poorest in Alabama.  Really?

Recently there was a discussion about which state someone would want to live in - I think this helped me make up my mind.  That a city / county government with such a high tax base, highly educated such caring people such as in California can not fix their poop problems - but that is the same as the poorest,  less educated of Alabama, that can not use a normal septic system due to the soil composition being basically solid clay.  You would think that since the soil is a problem, and such a health concern that the City/County would put in a sewer system and treatment plants to resolve this - but again low tax base area, really poor and

https://www.al.com/news/montgomery/2017/01/former_lowndes_county_mayor_pl.html

A former mayor of a Lowndes County town pleaded guilty to taking $25,370.37 from the town's account for his personal use, Attorney General Luther Strange said.

Huh - Mayor of a county who voted 73% for Hillary stealing from the town - maybe if he was not stealing he could use time and money to work on a sewer system and treatment plants.

Lowndes County

D Hillary Clinton, 73.1 percent, 4,882

R Donald Trump, 26.2 percent, 1,751

I Gary Johnson, 0.5 percent, 32

I Jill Stein, 0.2 percent, 11

So from what I can see with just a little looking this morning is that people who have poop/septic/sewer issues and do not fix their own or vote for people who will fix the local utility issues - Vote for democrats, it is not a education, racial or other issue - Democrats just can not seem to get their chit to go where it belongs.

JD--i'm somewhat curious , given your extreme disdain for the people and state of Alabama, why you either live/own property  here or visit this poor, backward, hateful, grungy, 3rd world country called Alabama ; trust me, no one would miss you if you transferred your membership to the glorious independent state of Demo/California

Your witty turn-of-phrase cannot hide the fact that California’s homeless/poop problems are over the top, especially for such a wealthy, educated and “woke” state.

and certainly they may be, shall we say, more ''Aesthetically'' disturbing than what we might all prefer, but anybody who thinks neither AL nor any of the ''Red'' states have any problems of a similar nature is, l will say again, either delusional or living in a cave!

I have not seen that Alabama's three major cities,(Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile), are inhabited by homeless and drug addicted people. Also, I am not aware that any of those conditions exist in the other "red" states. How would you like to live in San Francisco where city officials are painting city buildings with "pee-proof" paint that will splatter back on feet and shoes? Public parks reek the smell of urine and receive a grade of "F" based on their "unsanitary " conditions.

That's hardly my definition of aesthetic, Buteye; I'm with you.

Just goes to show that TDS'sers will even eat sh*t if they think it'll get them somewhere in the power game.
