Pulled into the house on Friday to see water gushing from the valve going into my house.  Turns out the PVC connector failed.  Have no idea how long the water was flowing but when I went to the street to turn the water off the dial was spinning like crazy.    Called Chris at Oak Valley and he had a crew at the house to fix it within a few hours.  Already sent a letter to the Jacksons Gap Water Authority with a copy of the invoice begging forgiveness.  Pointed out to them that we pay the minimum every month during the winter when we are usually not there so I'm hoping they will be reasonable.

On a related note, as I was driving out of the neighborhood later that day I saw that the water main was broken.  Called JGWA and they had a crew out there fixing it expeditiously.  Only without water for a couple of hours at most.  Way less time than my own fix.

Cory and Crew at JPWA are great.  Unfortunately we see to much of them as a line breaks somewhere in our subdivision at least once a month.  They are working with us to try to get an upgrade to our system.  And dont worry, every customer gets a one time "leak" adjustment.  They will make it reasonable based on your average bill.  Not being here in the winter to use water is not a real plus for them because the lack of flow in winter/early spring is what promotes the algea growth a lot of folks smell and taste.

Hope you're right about the adjustment.  Agree about the water usage but even so, we pay $28 per month even when there's little to no usage.  Hope they take that into account.

Had a similar issue with Walnut Hill water. They did adjust but since the are a water reseller...they charged me cost. Shaved off a little but still got stuck with a sizable bill. They also informed me it is a one time lifetime adjustment. That said.... I turn the water off at the street when I leave now. Just sayin!

Check the meter and take a reading. Look at your last bill to see how much water was used due to the break. You can easily dertermine the cost of the water usage.

I've used Chris and Oak Valley before and they are great.  Not the cheapest, but have always shown up promptly and fixed the problem.

Good luck with your water authority.  We had a similar thing happen about 5 years ago and I still had to pay the water bill (Parker Creek)

Henley is not very understanding in that way, although one time when his meter readers detected a significant leaK at our meter - on my side - they turned off the water and contacted me to let me know what was going on.

Another time they came out to read the water meter and contacted me to let me know we had a problem.  I looked on the water bill as something we had to pay and I didn't ask them to adjust it.  That particular time, I got up to find that we had water cascading down our hill like a waterfall.  I don't remember the circumstances, but it had to do with someone hitting the pipe and causing the problem.  We had the pipe re-routed and never had a problem again.

I don't have anything bad to say about Terry Henley or Parker Creek water.  They've always treated us fairly.

I really don't want to read the meter as it will probably depress me.  I do know that they last read it on the 19th and it was normal.  It will be what it is and I'm hoping they will be reasonable.  I will however start to turn the water off at the street.

Assuming I do that do I need to do anything in the house?  Right now we turn off all the water to toilets and the washer.  I assume it wouldn't harm the hot water heater since it will be full when we leave and won't be used while we're gone.  Or should I turn the power off to it as well?

We routinely turn the water and water heater off any time we leave unless we will be back in a week or so.  I installed a water heater switch on the side of the kitchen island and turning it off is a part of our routine exit/close up procedure.  That being said, if your system has no leaks there should be no way the water heater would drain and leaving it on would do no harm except to your power bill.

Well, realistically, he maintains his own fireplugs, so if he chooses to pain them in his colors, that's his right.

I don't disagree with his choice of colors!
