"The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee just released a report that states the obvious, but in these times is quite damning for President Donald Trump: Russia directed a disinformation campaign during the 2016 election to hurt Hillary Clinton and favor Trump.

The committee has spent three years conducting a bipartisan investigation into the extent of the Kremlin’s interference during the last presidential cycle. It released the first of its findings in July, showing that Moscow-linked hackers likely tried to access election systems in all 50 states.

On Tuesday, the Senate panel released its second set of conclusions focused on Russia’s use of social media during the last campaign season. What it discovered was what US intelligence agencies have long assessed: Trump was Russia’s favorite.

“The Committee found that the IRA sought to influence the 2016 US presidential election by harming Hillary Clinton’s chances of success and supporting Donald Trump at the direction of the Kremlin,” the report reads using an acronym for the Internet Research Agency, the name for the group of the Russian hackers."

No one has ever argued that there was not foreign influence - Nor has anyone argued that Russia prefered Trump - It just shows that they understood that the world would be worse off with Hillary at the Helm. 

In contrast to the consistent denigration of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump's candidacy received mostly positive attention from the IRA' s influence operatives, though it is important to note that this assessment specifically applies to pre-election content. The Committee's analysis indicates that post-election IRA activity shifted to emphasize and provoke anti-Trump sentiment on the left. DiResta's team assesses that in relation to pre-election content: "The majority of the political content was anti-Hillary Clinton; there appeared to be a consistent preference for then-candidate Donald Trump, beginning in the early primaries .... There was no pro-Clinton content."137

For instance, IRA employees were directed to focus on U.S. politics and to "use any opportunity to criticize Hillary and the rest (except Sanders and Trump-we support"them)." 138

) Further, the IRA's attempts to engage political activists by using false U.S. personas to "communicate with unwitting members, volunteers, and supporters of the Trump Campaign involved in local community outreach, as well as grassroots groups that supported then-candidate Trump."142

After the election, IRA operatives orchestrated disparate political rallies in the United States both supporting president-elect Trump, and protesting the results of the election.

So just to be clear - who was president at the time and should have had the IC looking into these things and protecting our elections?  Instead they appear to have been spending all their time focusing on Trump with laser precision.  Maybe had they taken their rose colored blinders off they might have seen the bigger picture, but Obama and the IC was too busy trying to find anything they could to damage Trump in the same election.  You would think that since they were so focused on Trump that they might have stumbled over those Russians eaerlier since they could not look into anything else but that for a long time leading up to the election.

So Obama and the IC dropped the ball, and Hillary was such a horrible canidate that even with the full weight of the US Government, IC, DOJ, FBI, CIA and Ukraine - a handfull of posts on facebook and instagram was enough to turn her into the bitter harpie she is today?

I know you wanted to post this as so damning to Trump, But I read this a whole different way.  This is that Obama did build that,  he and our government agencies that are charged with protection our elections FAILED, and Hillary was such a horrible canidate with so much baggage she could not win against such a flawed canidate as Trump due to a few likes on fakebook posts.

And maybe there should be more controls on international media sites such as facebook, instagram and others - they have done such a fabulous job of policing themselves - but then again they can still probably do better then Obama, DOJ, CIA, FBI did during this attack on our republic, and that thought is sad because we all know by now that facebook sucks at protecting data, but damn they can sure block or ban a republicans quickly.

So the Russians also supported Bernie, but I notice there is little mention of that fact anywhere in your posts, but you are not so concerned that Russia supported Bernie and he is one of your top tier primary canidates.  Bernie has many more ties to Russia then Trump, but yet not a negative word from you, so it does appear that they supported "Anybody but Hitlery"

Goofy:  Thanks for the selective editing.  I noted you left out all the information about Ukraine helping the Hillary campaign.  I note you left out all the information about the UK and Australia ehling the Clinton campaign.  I note you left out Bill Clinton asking Tony Blair for help in his campaign.

You are such a rube and suffer so much from TDS that you are literally not in touch with reality.  Russia, China, Norks, UK and pretty much every country with a stake in who is POTUS has always tried to influence an election.  Their goal is to: a) get their preferred candidate elected or b) if that doesn't work they try to sow the seeds of conflict in our country to destabilize our government.  The Russians and others are succeeding beyond their wildest dreams because I doubt they ever realized how Democrats, suffering from raging TDS, would carry their water so well.  Y'all are useful idiots and there have been tons of congratulatory vodka toasts in the Kremlin with wild laughter as you do their bidding.

But as we saw with the Mueller report and the Russiagate hoax, there was no collusion, there was no obstruction.  It was business as usual in the arena of world affairs with the exception of Democrats and the govt media acting as their lap dogs because they hate Trump more than they love this country.

I heard this on the news this morning.  Are we supposed to be surprised?  Old news.  The 2016 election is over and done with.  No matter how many Russiagates, Hilary is still not going to be President.  

Global social media needs to find more and responsible ways to edit content. But people in this country need to be more alert and careful in their thinking about what they read.  The voting public is just as responsible as the Russians.
