yup quick google of G7 and I was hit with probably 30 articles with Emoluments clause.

Maybe he should host it elsewhere and just put his kids on all the foreign boards to make millions, as that seems to be the "legal" way to do it.

I think that is a poor choice on his part.  He needs to remember that when you find yourself, stop digging.  It may be perfectly legal, but I question if it meets government ethics laws and the optics are terrible.  He may be getting a charge out of this, but it would be better if he lowered his profile a bit.  

I just saw a piece on the news.  It appears that Sallie Mae is having a paid conference in Hawaii.  Once again, very poor optics, especially for those that are struggling to pay their student loans.

Now you know that Sally Mae is not governmental, right?  Quasi public but even they have a contract with a private entity.  Not sure how that relates to Trump or the government?  I think bailing freddy and sally years ago with loan guarantees was a mistake despite them having paid those off and government pocketing the profits.

Yes, I know that Saliie Mae is not government, but the optics of having a conference in Hawaii is bad optic when people are struggling to pay student loans.

Yes, I know Trump lives for this stuff.  And sometimes it works for him.  But at this particular point in time he's got a lot of people on both sides of the aisle questioning his motives and his decisions.  It's not like he needs the money.  You know, eventually your luck runs out.  And he needs to remember that his objective is another term.

Now you know that the resort offered the meeting "at cost" so that there would be no benefit to anyone, saving millions to the cost of the other three sites.  Does that violate that clause?  

again, the hate toward Trump clouds reason and this decision drives them nuts even when it's the cheapest option.  TDS 

working as president for no payment should be appreciated but no, can't do that!  So he gives the checks to charity. This country is nuts!

Yes, but even if it is "at cost", the optics make it appear that he is trying to give business to one of his resorts.

Glad you changed your mind on this  Shortbus.  The optics for Trump will never be great, regardless.  The dems and the media will find fault with his cure for the common cold and cancer.  Let's wait and see how the G7 at The Doral plays out.  When taking the long view, Trump has not made many bad major decisions.

as do many South FL properties.  Taking that into consideration, offering up a property ''at cost'' actually means they will be able to make up all or part of that loss which is the same as a profit for the bottom line on the books at the end of the fiscal year.  Trump thought the American people weren't smart enough to figure that out...he was wrong...except for his ''BASE'' who support ANYTHING, literally, ANYTHING Trump decrees even if is the exact opposite to what they were praising 24 hours before!
