I have been an Area Propane customer for 18 years or so.  When My Mother-in-law needed to replace a gas space heater we went to Area and bought one, took it to her house and replaced the old with the new.  No problem. Until it was turned off for a while.  The spark igniter has gone bad.  No bid deal really, until the boss calls to ask about a repair, mainly do they send someone out or do we need to bring it in.  While she and the secretary were on the phione she could hear someone in the background asking why we stopped buying gas from them.  Since I just bought a 100 gallons last month this perplexed me, but also what does one have to do with the other. But the boss could clearly hear someone talking in a very rude manner, so when she got off the phone she called me.  Still a little unclear as to what the process was going to be I called them and was immedeiately put through to the owner.  I needed to know would they fix it on the spot since it is a very simple changeout or would I have to leave it with them as this mattered as to whether or not I needed to install the old one back temporarilly or if I could just return with the new repaired heater.  That was the info I sought.  W/hat I got was a little different.

He immediately started telling me how it was illegal for him to come into a home to repair a heater he didn't install, when I told him I didn't believe that for a minute he said it was "regulations" and when I said I didnt believe that either he fell back on the old "insurance won't allow him".  I told him that the boss could hear him in the background wanting to know why we quit buying gas from him so I told him I bought my last 100 gallons from him last month.  I own my tank so I am a free agent.  His trucks won't be back in my yard.  Congratulations to him.  His business is so good he can throw away long term customers over a $5 part and five minutes of his time.

After talking with the boss and mulling things over a while we decided to simply return the defective heater so I called to inquire what the process is to return it and she wasn't sure but I heard the rude fellow in the background tell her to tell me to bring it back, so it is on the way.  I have been a loyal customer for many years and haven't even price checked them for the last half dozen or so fill-ups. I have even recommended them to others, including on this forum.  As it turns out we are getting the same heater from another dealer $50 cheaper from Hall's Gas Company, whom will also get all my future gas purchases.

Hall's is who we do business with and have for years. The owners son, who probably runs it now, used to deliver to my grandparents house. He always would go inside and sit and talk with them for a while. Customer service like that really impressed me and we will only do business with them.

We have had Hall's for a number of years.  Very nice personnel.  They keep track of our tank and always keep us full and always chat with us if we are home.  They leave the bill in the door if we are not at home.  Their prices are very good.
