I marvel how little kids now days get through the day alive!  Not their fault, their parents (our kids) forgot to teach them basic responsibilities.  They could you tube it but first, they need to know what to ask.  Lol. Kinda fun to watch it unfold.

Can not hunt, fish or open cans.  They are going to be the 1st to starve to death when there is a disruption at the local grocery store.

For whatever reason, just see what happens when the electricity is off for 1 month.

No kidding - there will be rioting when they can not charge their phone or get to facebook/instagram, they would happily starve to death as long as they can get their screen time.  For that matter they would probably start to market some new diet fad about all the weight they lost due to starvation ( assuming they could get to a place to post it )

"You too can look this good.  I have not had anything to eat in 5 days other the leaves because the can opener was too complicated."

Quick question is how many here know what a P-38 is without googling ( and not the airplane )

My father had one on his key ring for all my life and we used it often when camping and a few times when the power was out due to snow/ice.  I have several I keep in the camper, and backpacks and the gerber tool has something similar that I have had to use a few times.

There is also a bigger brother to the p38 the p51 - assume both named for for the airplanes - may invest in a few of the p51s as I get older and need the extra leverage to open the cans.

Can you imagine the kid trying to figure out a modern can opener such as from the origional post being handed a p38?  Even better would be to give it to him without internet so he can not google what it is or how to use it.  They would be as lost as rat poop in a sack of wild rice.

Well, I'm a boomer and I would be to get into the can but probably not the way it was intended.  Lol.  I have used a hunting knife before to open a can of beans.  Never knew it was a p-38.

ok, boomer!

I used it well into my adult life and never knew what it was actually called.  Was in a army surplus back in the 80s and they had a box of hundreds of them and it was labeled, only reason I knew what it was actually called - we just called it the can opener.

Also have used a field knife and once a flat head screwdriver and a hammer when it fell out of my pack one year and started putting them on zippers and carry more then one.

I watched a friend almost cut his thumb off doing it with a knife once so got him a few for his Christmas stocking that year, and try not to resort to the drastic if it can be helped.
