We have a tradition that we give my wife something funny for Christmas every year and usually based on some event during the year.  One year she was constantly complaining that she could never find her scissors.  For Christmas every one of us gave her a pair of scissors.  Another year we went on vacation to Yosemite and I swear and this is no exaggeration, she took 50 pictures of Half Dome from every conceivable angle and time of day.  For Christmas that year every one of us gave her a framed picture of Half Dome.

This year is a twofer.  First, she lost her wedding band and asked me to get a new one.  I wrapped it, placed it in a box, wrapped that box, placed it in a slightly larger box and so on.  It's gonna take her a while to get to the ring.  But even better, she asked me to buy her a black cocktail clutch.  So I started asking her questions about what exactly she wanted and at the end she told me not to order it online so she wouldn't have to ship it back.  So this is what I ordered from Macy's and this is the card I am going to put in with the clutch.

You'll have to let us know if she takes it back.

One time when I was living in VA, I was in Neiman Marcus.  This woman was looking at a Chanel eveing bag and some other designer while her husband was waiting.  Finally, he said to her "Damn it, get them both.  I want to go home".  I know the Chanel bag was $1200 and I imagine that the other one was similarly expensive.   My husband would have said "go home and think about which one you want, and come back and get it.  LOL

Hound, I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that she will take it back.  That's why I bought it.  And it I had bought something I thought she would like, based on 37 years of experience, I can say with 75% certainty she would have taken that back as well.    So this year I went with total certainty.  I also bought her a Rolling Stones t-shirt with the big lips that I'm going to put in the purse.  She will get a good laugh out of it.

I buy the boss whatever new tool she wants for Christmas every year.  She has a pretty good collection.  Of course she is graciuos enough to let me use them anytime I need.  This year she really wants an 18v 10" RYOBI chain saw.  I expect delivery today...lol.

Seriously we don't even bother to exchange gifts but here is a tip for those fellows that do, If it plugs in the wall, its NOT a gift.

Does that rule extend to battery-operated devices as well?  I'm asking for a friend......

That one is wide open for abuse...lol.  I'm gonna let it go though and yes I realized the hypocracy of my post as I made it but figured everyone would know it was tongue in cheek.  I can't wait to try the little chain saw.  The reviews are great.  It will fill need when keeping roads clear at the farm.  We keep the limbs cut back far enough that you can ride the tractor down any road without being molested by limbs.

Well, at least you both go into it knowing what's going to happen, and you both have a sense of humor about it.  I have to say that I have never once returned a gift from DH.  Of course, my birthday is close to Christmas, so I'm not above picking out and buying little "happy birthday" and "Merry Christmas" gifts for myself.  My husband and I really don't exchang gifts anymore.  We buy gifts for our animals and a few friends.

But I have to say, given your case, you did quite well!!

I don't know Lifer.  One year DH gave me a Cusinart Food Processor and I was very pleased.  It was one of the original ones that were pretty expensive since they weren't yet commonplace.  We stil have it and it still works.  Those machines were meant to last.  I got it in 1985.

The lightweight battery operated Ryobi chainsaw that you have selected for your wife sounds good for the light trimming you need to do and you should also enjoy it when she will let you use it. While we are talking about battery operated products, about a year ago my son bought two "EGO"  chainsaws from a closeout sale on the internet and got two for the price of one. He gave me one of the chainsaws and I have become an owner of several of the EGO products and I am really impressed with all their products. EGO is actually the "brand name" with which Home Depot has an "exclusive" contract much the same as they do with "Ryobi".They also have leaf blowers(both handheld and back pack), hedge trimmers, string weed trimmers, snow blowers, walk behind lawmowers, and portable generators, all powered by 56 volt  Lithium-ion batteries. They are a bit "pricey", but I have purchased all the items I have at substantal "savings" during Home Depot's various promotins.
