Been on the lake 20+ years.....

Saw a otter today off my dock. Explains the fish skeletons and clam shells we have finding on our pier. Have they been on the lake all this time?

Yes a year ago I saw two otters, they were fishing and one came up on the neighbors dock and ate it's fish.  I had to google it yo make sure it was what I thought it was, so cool.

We have as many as three at a time here in our slough. They will talk to you and play together as they cruise through the water. The first year that we saw them I called the State department of wildlife and they said they inhabited the area but most people never saw them because they were mostly nocturnal during the summer.

Never seen them, but I have see evidence of them - fresh water mussel shells on the steps up to the dock.  I'd love to see one.

Had a cabin on east side of Paces Penn for many years, saw otters a few times; however, most muscle shells came from crows picking those shells from lake then dropping onto dock. crows are amazing animals.

I recently changed out my birdfeeders.  The murder of crows that used to eat from them now stand on the railing of  the porch and scold me until I go out and put some seed on the railing for them.  They definitely are smart.

  Otter or muskrat?

The size of the critters classified them as otters.

Otters have hair/fur head to tip of tail. It is hard to tell diffrence in the water between the two. If you have muskrat which i suspect nothing plastic or rubber within reach of a muskrat is safe. Many boats have sunk due to these critters. They also have caused the purchase of many transducers. Otters are not know for liking plastic. Wrap your exposed transducer wires with heavy duty aluminum foil. A word of caution dont cover transducer wire with woven stainless steel on a pontool as it will corode and eat away at the aluminum toon.
