Went to Mass today at St. Vincent in Tallassee and I could understand and the small church was great!  Found my home church.  And it's only 25 minutes away.  Thanks.

De nada.  Glad you liked it.  Wish it were a bit closer for us but the fact that we are willing to get up early enough to make the Sunday morning mass says a lot.  Also, in the summer their vigil mass is on the lake, I think at 6pm on Saturday at the Church in the Pines.  Never attended because we are on the opposite end of the lake but heard its very nice.  If you go, watch closely where people sit because they are trying to stay out of the sun.  :-)

Used to go fairly regularly to church in pines, we are in the real island area.  We are full time now so having a church base is important.  Again thanks, I just had a hard going to wetumpka or AC.  Funny we have had this place since 1985 and now feel like strangers! Lol.

happy New Year

Back at ya.....one other interesting thing about St VdeP is its history as told to me by a parishioner.  Apparently there was a woman in Tallassee that was reasonably well off and was a fan of Bishop Fulton Sheen.  At some point she decided she wanted to become Catholic but there was no Church so she decided to build one and Fulton Sheen came all the way from NY for its opening.  Not sure how true it is but this guy said they "don't need any money" because all the buildings were paid for and she left them a bunch of money.  Again, may not be completely correct but that's what we were told.

SVDP was a major plus for us when we purchased on LM in the early 2000's.  Property had to have easy access to a parish community.  Father Francis was our favorite priest.

I remember Fr. Francis.  He too was a wonderful priest.  StVdeP seems to have a string of good luck that St. John does not.

That may be because of who is St. John's parish members  - if you go on Sunday morning, you'll see a fairly sparse mostly white parish but if you ever go on Saturday night - the place is full with Hispanic Catholics.  I know they even have a Spanish spoken mass.

Totally agree although I'm surprised that the Indian priests are better at Spanish but maybe so.  Like I said, I generally like them as priests but do struggle to understand their homily.  One of the them used to print it out and put it in the pew so you could follow along.  He always told a joke and would precede it with, "This.....is a joke."  Very nice priest, just hard to grasp at times.  Funny thing about St. John's is that we always knew we were getting at a long mass when the Hispanics were directing traffic.  Usually first communion or confirmation or the Bishop was there.   If I had no other choice I'd be happy to go there to get the Eucharist and an orthodox mass and would be happy to live with the music and hard to understand priests.

I cannot understand a word he says.  I guess no one has complained which is why he is still there.
