As a newly-minted retiree, I have had the opportunity to watch this spectacle unfold this afternoon.  My first observation is that President Trump should look for different legal counsel.  Jay Sekulow has been abysmal (and I think I am being charitable here) and Cipollone hasn't been much better.  While I realize this "trial" is essentially a fait accompli, they really need to step up their game, as the court of public opinion still matter during an election year.  Yikes!!!!

You made a very wise choice, on the yard work that is.

I had to do errands today so I didn't see it.  But I find my overwhelming urge is to throw things at the TV, as soon as the Dems start talking.  Especially Schiff.

It's pitiful just the little bit I saw.  Nobody cares about this nonsense

I suspect that plenty of people on both sides of the issue are "watching this crap" just like it has been the topic of the vast majority of the topics on this board the last 6 months.  I suppose one can ignore it and take the "ignorance is bliss" approach, but then don't complain when things don't turn out like you thought.

I pray I am wrong but the way the "Deep State" hates Trump because he has shown what an incompenent, crooked, disloyal crowd these denzens are. And many of these Socialist really intend to overthrow our Republic. You know the Democrooks will promise anything, threaten anything from blackmail to physical violence to a defector, Could enough sell their soul and vote with the Democrooks?

Should they do so, though, it would be time for us to start buying rope!

I pray they are still men enough to stand against this onslaught for as Churchill said:

Courage is rightly judged the first of manly virtues

Because it is that that gurantees all the other virtues!

No Democrat, other than perhaps the "true believers" really think they have a shot to convict Trump in this proceeding.  What most probably do believe, however, is that if they can drag this out and bloody him during the process, they can get enough independants and moderate republicans to defeat him in November.  The main component of that strategy would be to get 4 republican senators to vote to allow additional witness testimony and document production, which could drag this out for several months, and may well turn up some documents/testimony that could be very embarrassing.  So, what the Trump defense team does during the next several days/weeks will be very important to the ultimate outcome in November.  IMO, it will not take a whole lot to move Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Manchin and a couple others to vote with the democrats on this issue.

Admonished both sides for not maintaining a respectful exchange, and told both sides to remember where they are.  I'm waiting for the first exchange of punches.

I think what we are seeing is a prime example of how our culture has changed.  And it makes me very sad.  Back in the 60s, we decided to "let it all hang out" and it's done nothing but go downhill from there. It's like the way the "f" word has gone from something that was considered back room language to people not being able to say a complete sentence with out dropping it in (both men and women).  Shortly after I married my husband, he asked me to clean up my language, and I did and haven't cursed in years (except maybe when I dropped something heavy on my foot), so when I listen to people talk today, their fluent use of the "F" word really stands out to the point I don't hear anything else.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., weighed in on the impeachment trial, saying she still holds out hope, but is getting discouraged by Republican actions. “Well, I'm getting less and less encouraged by how they're acting. I thought maybe at some point maybe one of them would stand up for witnesses. I still hold out hope. I saw a lot of people looking down at their shoes over there on the other side, especially when the cases were made on national security that Vladimir Putin is watching and many of my colleagues over there have been really strong on taking on Russia,” she says. “So let's see them actually do it, and taking on Russia means making it very clear that it's not okay for an American president to hold up aid to a fledgling democracy that Russia has invaded just because he wants to do his own personal and partisan and political and private bidding,” she says.Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.

I thought that the Senators took an oath of impartiality prior to the proceedings.  I guess, like all things in the proverbial "greatest deliberative body the world has ever known" alot of their actions are for show only.   Why does  CJ Roberts not exert control over outbursts such as this?  I am not quite sure that he even knows his boundaries.....

Apparently, he has no authority other than to interpret legal issues.  I'm not sure why he spoke out about decorum last night.

I stated back when he greenlighted Ocare that he is compromised and switched position at the last minute to keep his skeletons in the closet.  Now with alll that has come out about the deep state and how they abused the process on FISA warrants I am even more convinced he is compromised.  If they will lie/cheat to take out a POTUS they wouldn't bat an eye about taking out the CJ.  But of course he is worth more to them sitting atop the court than retired and making a gazillion dollars in the private sector.

The GOP should allow witnesses to prove Trump is innocent. Otherwise, it just looks like Trump is guilty as charged. Voters outside of Alabama can see thru Trump's defense or lack thereof.

Then why not allow Bolton and Mulvaney to testify and prove the telephone conversation was perfect? How can a GOP Senator take an oath to uphold "impartial justice", refuse to hear any witnesses, and then defend their impartiality? LOL

Such a shame that the House could not wait on the judicary.

I keep hearing Schitt and Nadless talking about the amount of evidence they already have.  Shame they are not able to produce any of it to back up their statements.

If the house needed additional information for it to make their argument, you would think they should have waited to get it before they passed and then sat on the articles for as long as they did, expecially while making the argument that the reason they went with such speed is because of the need to take care of it before Christmas.

Personally I hope the Schitt show runs through the primary, tieing up the dim candidates, leaving you with Biden and then Hillary attempting to save the Republic by taking over at the convention causing chaos to run through the election.

Even better when at the convention they burn Bernie again and he either runs as an ind and splits the vote, or his supporters decide to either stay home or in form a death cult to bring forth the end of times by voting for Trumps 2nd term and speeding up the 12 year AOC end of times clock.

We should have, could have!  It's urgent!  Please, no one buying it.

this is sad, but guess they have convinced folks like you.  Just defeat the guy in November.

But they already have overwhelming evidence.

But I am glad to know that you admit the house evidence is lacking and is the reason you are begging now for additional information.

Shame that the body that is supposed to collect the information failed to do their job properly, but then again since it is dim controlled that makes sense.

Sad part is that the house failing to do its job you are attempting now to blame on the senate.

Impeachments that have had a bipartisan tenor I would suspect would be far more tame in the Senate and require less of the presiding officer.  In this case, a partisan impeachment that was handled with no due process in the bowels of the House by a party who has been preaching impeachment of Trump since election day, and handled and investigated poorly by Schiff, Nadler and Pelosi requires, in my opinion, a much more engaged presiding officer who is willing to rule in ways no seen by Rehnquist et al previously.  Roberts can't be worried about the Senate's feelings or afraid to admonish those who deserve it.  It will be interesting to see if he steps up to the plate.

She's trying hard to position herself to do just that.  She's going to try to cut a deal, you just wait.  If she can't get the nomination, she'll position herself to try to get on a ticket for VP.  She can say that no one likes Sanders or wants to work with him (and I believe that), but I suspect the same is true of her.

Most of Bolton's testimony will be classified under "executive priviledge" Everyone knows that he said that Guiliani was a hand grenade - and as much as I agree with Bolton on that one thing - it proves nothing.  He expressed an opinion.

Remember - Trump only held up the aid to Ukraine - he released it and it was obligated and Ukraine still got it in the year that it was legislated.  I have to laugh about them being up in arms and saying that Trump abused power by asking the Ukraine president to look into Biden and the energy company, when we know anyone of them would do the same, and likely have tried to dig up dirt on their opponent.  I think Dems are also a bit worried about what other instances where their kids used to their name and access to get jobs they weren't qualified for.  I still think there is more there than meets the eye.

Dems must be quite desperate and think that Trump is unbeatable in 2020, because if they were confident, I don't think they would be so desperately trying to unseat him in his 4th year.

She will never take VP - it is prez or nothing.  I will be shocked if at the convention she does not try something.

You might be right.  Desperate people do desperate things.  Not to mention that Clintons, by nature, are rather cunning and underhanded.

Probably not, usually they go the suicide route with multiple gunshots to the back of the head or hang themselves with a bed sheet while in the most secure wing of whatever prison, or a robbery on a street that went wrong.

He would want to lock his doors at night and move the dresser in front of the door, and keep an agent standing behind him that he can trust to not be bought off to do Hillary's evil.
