I didn't get it either.  The only thing I can figure is that the Democratic candidates had to hurry to get out to Iowa, and cut a deal.  They didn't want to hang out for a vote tonight.  Maybe McConnell thinks that since he had the votes to block the witnesses, he could afford to wait.

I think dems wanted to delay so when he gives State of union address they can still claim hes'impeached' therefore his speech is meaningless
