What are they not happy about?  Was the owner suppossed to continue to loose money just to make a few folks happy?  Downtwon is DEAD.  Accept it and move on.  It time folks finally realize there is NOTHING there to deaw anyone down there.  It is not even a nice dowtown with a pretty main street. It is chopped up, divided, spread out and old and ugly.  If tourism is out future the powers that be need to concetrate on bussiness, industry  and growth toward that end, NOT SAVING DOWTOWN.  The city abandoned dowton ffs but so many follks seem to want to continue to force it on the rest of us.

Lifer, I will just say...AMEN.  Seems the Chamber of Commerce has been taken over by tha ole mill crowd who won’t admit to themselves that downtown is dead, tha mills are gone, and the lake folks should not be acknowledged as existing.  “Misplaced southern aristocracy”

The plan is to make Lake Martin the centerpiece (and savior) of Alex City.  

I don't want to get into it in a public forum, but the fact that the store closed is the least of what people are upset about.  A lot of people were left holding the bag, so to speak.

like wix said the happening is at the lake. thats why russell wants tograb 13 miles of shore at wickers point and bring it into alex city  limits.  also building the new boat dealership at the stop light.

  There is no happening in Alexander City.  The next big thing i understand will be the new city goverment when the elections roll around this year!  

  As for things to do/eat around the lake is Blue Creek =  niffers, poplar dogs, 34 resturant, Oscars, or Coppers grill.

The clothing store was too expensive for the local market.  Who wears $100 custom dress shirts?  He also had the coffee shop.  Word around town is that he was a con artist.  Left with people's money, left bankers being owed and no one can find him.  Poof.
