Google it!!

As if Trump's own slightly more gentle ''night of the long knives'' weren't enough he is now about to issue a new executive order decreeing that all major Federal buildings contracted by the General Services Administration to be in th ''style'' of the classical Greek and Roman architecture.  It will specifically give a White House committee the right to review all projects and make a recommendation as to whether the design meets the guidelines while decreeing Donald John Trump will have the final up or down decision.  I'm sure he will do a great job because, after all, he knows more about architectural design than ANYBODY else in the world just aqs is true with every other thing worthy of his consideration!

Wake up people!!

I will say that most of his signature properties are aesthetically pleasing and seem well designed (at least from a visual standpoint).  But then again, I haven't seen any of yours so it is sorta hard to compare.

The post was not to compare Trumps properties to anything I have designed.  It was to make this forum aware of Trump's scary intention to become the final arbiter of the nation's architectural tastes.

I have never done a Federal government building but I have done classical projects including several historic restorations.  Classical architecture has its place but the government in general and Donald Trump in particular have absolutely no business mandating design classical or otherwise!  As for Trump's building they run the gamut on the exterior from pretty good to awful but ALL the interiors of the spaces he and his family occupy are over the top God awful...they look like an over the top whore house.  He is the last person that should be dictating design for anything, especially anything being paid for by the taxpayers!

Now thanks to arch , we all have something new to stress out over-design of govt buildings-if Dems get in they'll put in Starbucks but no Chick Fil A

Than the current designs shown last night on nbc.  They talked about how depressing these building were on employees and visitors and I agreed.  But actually they need to empty of few buildings of employees doing little to nothing?  Or those who make work for the rest of us.  Lol.

and actually answer a serious question straight up or will you fall back on the usual obfuscation?  Do you support Trump issuing an executive order giving him the final thumbs up or thumbs down on architectural decisions or not?  Just FYI, Properly detailed and finished classical buildings tend to be much more expensive than contemporary ''styles''.  Now, answer the question!

Sounds like you are a bit "disgruntled" that you are not going to be called upon to provide your "expertise" on any of the modernizing that is being planned. Just curious, did you learn what an "over the top whore house" looks like while getting your "Architectual Degree" or is your knowledge from "first hand experience"?

Just one more question? Have you been inside ALL the interiors of the spaces he and his family occupy"?

Actually, I don't agree but I think some process on design is needed.  Really don't know how it was/is done now but that hhs building in Bestheda that I have been in is the Pitts.

believe it or not I did not vote for the Donald but will in 2020.  I don't usually like his verbiage but one need not wonder what his opinion is.  He gets results and yes my retirement fund is performing well!  Guess I, like most Americans, can be bought!  Lol.

any of Trump's living spaces but I have, along with anybody interested in doing so, seen many of them in photos and videos and they ALL are over the top expensive crap that is worthy of the most upscale whorehouses anywhere.  As an architect friend of mine would say ''Donald Trump's taste is at the wrong end of his digestive track!''.  If you want high rise federal buildings withe 100' corinthian columns around the perimeter and a gold leaf dome in the lobby then you will certainly get your desires answered with this idiot heading up the design committee!

can and have been bought.  I personally consider the preservation of the principals upon which this nation is built to trump (pun intended) the bottom line of my portfolio!

I do appreciate your sorta answering the question.  A rare event on this forum.

I detest the parties and I find those who allow the party to dictate their opinion to be minions.  I have never agreed with a politician 100% or even 75% of the time.  I try to base my opinion on values, beliefs, and principles.

Finally I rarely answer questions as yes or no if I think the underlying motive is suspect.  But I did try to answer your question that I know little about.  My wife reminds me regularly that I have little sense of style, lol.  See ya.

Have you always shown such an interest in President Trump's "architectual" designs or did it take the fact that he was elected President of the United States for you to gain your "intense" interest in his "majestic" works?

Archie, my belief is that we, the current recipients of the inumerable graces of the United States Constitution, do more to preserve the principals upon which this nation was founded than any politician.  If you feel that those principals are being eroded, then I suggest that you look in the mirror and determine where you personally can advance those principals.  A way not to advance the cause of freedom and democracy is to viciously attack a president and his family for 3 continuous years, and then wonder why he fights back.

“Architectural styles –with special regard for the classical architectural style– that value beauty, respect regional architectural heritage, and command admiration by the public, are the preferred styles for applicable federal public buildings.”

“Where applicable, federal public buildings are built in a style other than a preferred architectural style … great care and consideration must be taken to choose a beautiful design that conveys the dignity, enterprise, vigor, and stability of America’s system of self-government.”

The general public is encouraged to add commentary to the designs.

This is currently stated in the order from what I have researched.

And you Archie, have a problem with this?  Do you consider the HUD building architecturally pleasing?  How about the DOE building?  The J. Edgar Hoover building is a real architectural gem.  I have spent innumerable hours in the National Museum of Art and find the newer East Wing addition an eyesore compared to the older wing.  Please offer to us your best choice of Washington DC modernistic architecture and lets compare it to the worst Washington DC classical piece.  Beauty is said to be in the eyes of the beholder, and in this case, Trump is allowing public commentary and a form of a homeowners association "architectural review committee" input on the architectectural profession's cabal on federal office building design.  What an exciting and novel concept Archie, general public input into even the intricacies of federal design.  MAGA.

and that is all your quote is!  I have a huge problem the fact the proposed executive order continues beyond your quote and ultimately gives one man who thinks everything has to be shiney brass to look like gold and who wouldn't know good architecture if it bit him in the fanny the final say on what is and is not acceptable.  Do you?

Sorry Goofy, but you voted twice for the guy who used cigars to insert into the Lewinsky and created the phrase getting a Lewinksy.....cause it depends on what the word is is.  Sorry, but we can't even begin to take you seriously.  But you keep being you.

Tell us who sits on the Presidents Committee for Re-Beautification of Federal Architecture?  It was  the Obama administration who “deemphasized a commitment to Design Excellence”, so just what is it Archie, you don't want this administration to pay attention to Architectual excellence but you were ok with Obama ignoring it?  TDS still rearing its ugly head.

Wierd that Washington DC was built on old classic designs that were proabably more expensive then normal buildings of the time or log cabins.  Seems like a huge waste of money, but then again they have lasted for a long time...
