Very interesting article in the WaPo.  Turns out the CIA and West German govt secretly owned a company called CryptoAG that supplied encryption technology to the world, including countries like Iran and others.  What a great thing.  Here's the article.

Fascinating.  Thanks for sharing.

I was lucky enough to attend the National Communications Security course at NSA back in the early 70s and it is partly from what I learned there that leads me to the observation that appearances can be deceiving and "we don't know what we don't know".  Those  on the forum who make absolute statements based on what they get from print or electronic media are simply naive.  

There is a whole alternative universe out there and we mortals will never know the depth nor breadth of its existence.

If you like this, I just read an interesting book called Betrayal in Berlin.  It is about the British spy George Blake and a tunnel Berlin that we used to tap phone lines used by Soviet military and intelligence back in the late 50's.  And you are right, not only things happening that we don't know about, we shouldn't know about them.

And that is probably a good thing.  I've always felt that if we knew what was really going on in the world, we'd be scared to death all the time.
