Expanding on the previous topics, anyone want to talk about boats from the past?  I've got a few, among them a 1955 and 1957 Chris Craft. Would love to hear your stories.

Have always loved the old wooden boats - Chris Craft, Hackercraft, etc. but never had the guts or the money to buy one. (Scared of the maintenance.) Son used to work at Chris Craft and they had a beautiful example in their showroom.

Funny thing is, up the east coast there are plenty of older wooden lobster fishing boats and out on the west coast, plenty of wooden schooners and trollers that take a variety of weather conditions and elements.  These fishermen are not particularly known for their attention to yachtsmanlike (sp?) detail, but it does prove that you can easily change a plank, epoxy, repair a wooden boat much like a repair to a fiberglass boat.  It would be interesting to compare the normalized costs of wooden vs fiberglass boats over, say, a 10-15 year period.

I remember when Alan Jackson rode up to Aquapalooza in his Hackercraft.  It was a thing of beauty.  Did he donate it to Children's Harbor?

My uncle's boat on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.  He built this entire boat.  Single Detroit diesel.  He is a master craftsman and can pretty much make anything out of wood.

I forget the owner's name but some 60 years ago a fellow had a Chinese Junk on Lake Martin. Any one know what happened to it?

Remember seeing a 50's finned fiberglass with a Gale at the Rock in the mid 1990s. It was in rough shape, but way cool. Wish I could find it and add it to my finned collection.

I have a '63 Century Resorter. Mahogany inboard. I got it because my uncle had a similar boat on LM back in the 60's/70's. Old wooden boats do require some maintenance and care. Fortunately, we have on great resource in Cutwater Marine of Alex City. It would be interesting to have an old boat gathering (wood and classic fiberglass) at some upcoming boat show.

I too, recall the chinese junk from the 60's but i don't recall ever seeing it undersail. Did it harbor at Kowaliga or perhaps Castaway (now Anchor Bay)?

The Chinese "Junk" belonged to Mr. Red Blount and was usually anchored on the west side of his house at "Blount's Point".

Glad that question was finally answered!  Thanks!  By the way, what happened to it? Hope others keep the thread going on old boats.
