I thinkit is great that the government is trying to help people and making money available to the airlines, the cruise industry, states, and now the American people, but does anyone else wonder where the money is coming from.  What about these Stimulus packages?  They talk about "freeing" up money, but have you heard of any money being taken from the Defense budget or programs cancelled in order to find the money?  Are we going to find out that the national debt has gone up significantly when this is all over?  Does anyone have any insight?

Washington, D.C. and Ft. Worth, TX, which is where, I believe, paper currency is printed these days.  Since we haven't had a balanced budget since the Clinton administration (or the first year after), either the deficit will continue to grow significantly, or there will need to be substantial cuts elsewhere, especially to Defense and entitlement programs.  I'm betting on the deficit to continue to balloon, but hope to be plesantly surprised.

All else being equal, approximately the half amount being proposed would be  flowing into the treasury this year alone if Trump hadn't instituted tax cuts of which 90% went to the 5% of the people in America with the highest income!  Even with this ''help'' package the Repubs are already letting it be known that they want much of the $$$ to go to big business such as airlines that has been feeding high on the hog for the last  8 or 9 years and higher still for the last 3 years!  If we are really going to kick the economy back into hige gear ASAP once this thing is over th bulk of the relief need to go to the spender rather than the investors.

Sadly the one ability the Federal government has that no other level of gov't has is the ability to create money by pushing a button.  This stimulus package will be funded like all others through an increase in the national debt.  Temporarily it won't cause inflation but at some point they may need to claw some of that money back whiloe trying not to cause a recession.

This spending will certainly add to the debt but will it also be included in this fiscal year deficit by being included in the budget as was done in the Obama years or will it be ''off the books'' emergency spending which never shows up on the budget ledger or the budget deficit as was the practice in the ''W'' years?  I know what I would guess...how about you MM, CRD, Mr H?

Just one more inconvenient truth.

A number of large companies used the tax savings to buy back stock. They are now low on cash and as business slows down the will have to begin layoffs to save cash. Many have borrowed to buy back stock and now are sitting with lower stock value and loans that need to be paid back. They need a stimulus to save their as*. I hope Trump does what Obama did and gets equity in exchange for any stimulus money.

McConnell Now Backs Same Stimulus He Opposed Under Obama. ... The measure eventually passed the Senate by a vote of 60-38 with all Democrats and only three Republicans in support. The bill passed 246-183 in the House without a single Republican vote.

Obamas stimulus was because of a pandemic?  And to think all this time I was under the impression it was just his pi$$ poor economic policies.
