Good afternoon everyone!

I'm looking to take a kayak out to one of the islands on the lake to get a night or two of solo camping in; gotta get away from the world for a bit, all that good stuff.

I've spoken with Alabama Power and they've assured me that they allow camping on any of the islands they own on the lake (generally marked with an "Adopt-An-Island" sign). They didn't give me a good idea as to which islands those are, and I'm not finding much information online.

Thought I'd ask around here and see if anyone could give me a list or an idea as to which islands are owned by AP. I know Youngs Island is privately owned but beyond that I'm unfamiliar with the rest.

Any help would be appreciated!

Depends on what part of lake!  Near the dam, goat island is great.

Flyfisher: Of course. Leave No Trace is very important to me; not interested in leaving a mess where I've been.

Rooster: I've heard of Goat Island, something to definitely check out. AP mentioned some islands near Sandy Creek? I assume that's near the Smith Mountain fire tower and a little north of Blue Creek Marina.

U are correct. We camped on Goat for years until we bought our place.  That would be my choice but kinda far to reach by kayak.

Find the islands that interest you on the Elmore or Tallapoosa County Revenue Commissioner's online property tax maps.  They will show you if Ala Power is the owner.
