Reminds me of former HHS Sec Dr Price from Georgia who resigned after spending taxpayer's money on private flights. I find this sad cause Modly has served his country as a pilot. He just used bad common sense. He was Acting and was not going be permanent as Trump had previously named the permanent Sec Of Navy.

From USA Today

"WASHINGTON – Acting Navy secretary Thomas Modly's trip last weekend to address sailors aboard the COVID-19-stricken USS Theodore Roosevelt cost taxpayers more than $243,000 for the 35-hour round trip on a Gulfstream 550, according to a Navy official.

Modly's profanity-laced speech to the sailors, during which he branded the fired captain of the ship as "naive" and "stupid" for seeking aid, prompted Modly to offer his resignation Tuesday."

I find this sad cause Modly has served his country as a pilot. He just used bad common sense. He was Acting and was not going be permanent as Trump had previously named the permanent Sec Of Navy.

Goofy, you are literally the only person fixated on this for some crazy reason.  No one cares.  The guy made mistakes, he apologized and was canned.  At least he was held accountable unlike other much more egregious acts by gov't employees who likewise lived off my money and yours.

His only real mistake was that he said this to the ship at large.  You have a ship full of junior people who cannot comprehend the larger impact of what the Captain did.

Honestly, no one cares how much it cost.  The senior leadership of the services frequently make trips out to visit the soldiers, sailors and airmen, and it is considered to be good for morale, as well as hearing first hand the concerns of the military memebers.  This is considered to be the cost of doing business, and essential travel.

I agree that his only mistake was the offensive language.  The captain went around the chain of command with his letter.  That is a career ending move in the military for obvious reasons.  He knew what he was doing when he did it and has suffered the consequences.

Yes.  And that is the long and the short of it.  I'm not sure what the acting Secretary of the Navy thought he was doing with that spech, but he resigned under pressure.  If he had given that speech to just the Officers on board, he wouldn't have lost his job.  They would have understood that the Captain screwed up.
