Times like this remind me why I own an AR-15 and have lots of ammo in 30-mag clips.  Of course it's also why I live where I live so it is unlikely I will need to defend my family and property.  But like insurance and smoke detectors, I have them just in case and hope I'll never need it.  Bur for sure if I did I am going to be glad I do and the anti-gun types will be rushing to the gun shop to buy one only to be frustrated about how difficult it is to buy one.  Buy gun and ammo stock.....sales are going up.

Like you, I own an AR-15, multiple 30 round magazines, and "enough" ammunition.  I also own a 12 gauge shotgun that I keep loaded with 00 buckshot.  And a defensive 9 mm semi automatic handgun close to my bed, as well as a very small .380 to carry when out and about.  It isn't because I am a hunter, or because I plan to go out and commit multiple murders or other mass mayhem, but to be prepared in the case that myself or my family are threatened with death or physical harm. In fact, I don't particularly like guns but could not live with myself if someone did us harm or took a life and I wasn't prepared to defend us.

Sounds like we are comparably armed.  I have a tactical shotgun under my bed, a 45 with hollow point in the drawer next to my bed and carry a Springfield XD45 with hollow points.  Like you, I am not a hunter and have these weapons for personal defense against criminals and an oppressive government.  Hope I never need them but if I do I will be glad I have them.....very glad.  And so will those I am defending.

Even with the privacy allowed via the internet I prefer not to list what I have due to the fact that the more people who know who you are and what you have they know where they can come to attempt to take it when no one is home.

I had a neighbor who everyone knew what they had and where they kept what in the house due to the kids showing things off to friends, one day a van backed up to the house and was in and out in about 20 minutes - only thing touched was the firearms they got away with about 25 guns that day, zero recovered.

Only a few people on the Forum know who I am and one is Goofy......uh oh.......nah, he is too lazy to drive up here from Florida.  Plus he'd have to get past my dog which would be a bad day for him.  I taught him to only snarl at left wing nuts.  :-)

Have a good alarm system too - 90 lb malamute - she knows most of the people on the street and goes off on people who do not belong or slow driving cars that she does not know.  Best early warning system you can have.

I would feel sorry for anyone who breaks into my house without one of us here.

We never speak publicly about our guns, but suffice to say that our home could be sufficiently defended.  And I have 3 dogs, one of which considers herself to be the protector of our home.  She bit a lawn guy that she didn't like, and we had to restrain her from a window washer that she didn't trust.  She's a mixed breed we rescued, and I know she has some Great Pyrenees in her.
