My vote is up in the air.  I cannot believe that Tuberville got the nod over Sessions.  It makes me sick to think about it.  We had the chance for an intelligent choice and people voted for an ex-football coach whose only claim to fame is that Trump endorsed him.  OMG, we get the government we deserve when we vote like this.  I wonder what Tuberville is going to do if Trump isn't re-elected.

I find the vehemence of your objection to Tuberville rather surprising.  Granted, he has no political experience, but being a head coach of a D1 football team involves much more than calling plays on Saturday, and through the recruiting process certainly gave him a chance to meet the families and see how some of the less fortunate folks live.  To be successful he had to be exceptionally adept at organizing, directing, and recognizing problems as they happen.

But that isn't what I am really curious about.  I was at The Landing one evening early in the campaign and he came and gave a talk to those wanting to hear what he had to say.  I didn't join the group but did notice he stayed there and aswered anyone's questions.  Is there something about his stated objectives and how he plans to represent Alabama that bother you?  Surely your objections aren't just because he is a former football coach  If you are willing to share I am interested in knowing what has you so dead set against him.

"Enquiring" minds want to know!

If your vote is up in the air because you didn't get the guy you wanted then you will indeed get the govt you deserve.  Don't know much about Tuberville but I am hard pressed to believe he would be worse than Jones.  Being endorsed by Trump shouldn't matter in the least.  Now if there is something else about the guy that you know other than what you've already discussed I would raise them.  But nothing you said would make me even bat an eyelash at voting for the guy over Jones.

Okay, but when you are a coach, you have a lot of assistant coaches proping you up, so even if you are only mediocre you have a reasonable chance for success.  I don't think he was an especially successful coach - he might have had a couple of good seasons, but he wasn't a Saban or one of the stunningly successful coaches.

My dislike of him is this:  His compaign ads that say nothing more than "drain the swamp. build the wall. No amnesty.  And Trump endorses me".  First of all, draining the swamp and building the wall and no amnesty were 2016 Trump campaign promises.  I haven't heard Trump talk about any of that in a long time.  I suspect that Trump will have new campaign promises for 2020.  And what if Trump isn't re-elected?  So what is Tuberville offering me as a voter?  Mouthing Trump 2016 platiudes?

He just impresses me that, having nothing else to do, decides to get on the gravy train of national politics.  You know, I have a friend in VA politics and I know how he was chosen to run.  So someone got the idea to run Tuberville who has no track record and is not known to have any particular dirt on him.  He'll just be a mouthpiece for whatever special interests put him up for election.

I want thoughtful politicians who really want to accomplish something.  Big thinkers with new ideas.

I refuse to vote someone simply because they are a Republican.  That's how we got the partisan political landscape gridlock we are in now.  When was the last time that the House and Senate got anything done (other than the unemployment/payments associated with Covid).   I"m independent and as the campaign goes on, we'll see if Tuberville can change my mind.
