Alabama's governor just mandated masks in public.  So MM, you will have to stay out of Alabama until 31 July, when the order expires.

Right now, Alabama's confirmed cases are increasing about 1,000 cases a day and some days have reached 2,000.  The hospitals, while not yet overwhelmed, are full and they are starting to see shortages of PPE again.  I personally believe that the problem is that Ivey flung the doors open too soon - especially the beaches and the bars where a lot of people tend to congregate.

Yesterday, I was reading an article about a group of epidemilogists who are doing reseach into the origins of the virus.  I bellieve the article said they were going to travel to China as part of their research.  They have never definitiely proved that this jumped from some animal to humans, and even shutting down the "wet" market in China did not prove it.  As we know, the virus has a continuum from mild to severe and a wide variety of symptoms among those that test positive.  So I started asking myself how they way create a vaccine to counter a virus that they don't know the origins of and seems to have a variety of symptoms, and can range from mild, where you don't even know you are sick, to life threatening.  And once you have had it, they don't know if the antibodies will protect you from getting it again or for how long.  Obviously, there is a lot of political pressure for a vaccine and the company that comes up with one will make millions, if not billions of dollars.  And it is being produced en masse, even before it is proved to work.  So the question in my mind is how will they make a vaccine for something that they don't even understand?

We see various treatments who work on some people, but may be toxic to others.  I think the CDC knows that a vaccine is not likely before they completely understand the virus; I think Trump has been told this, and doesn't want to hear it.  Sorry, I think we are being played.  And I believe scientists over politicians any day.

It has some teeth - $500 fine for non-compliance.

Why would I have to stay out of Alabama?  You obviously have not been reading what I write or like RHH you simply want to misrepresent what I am saying.  I will wear a mask when it is required as I have from the beginning.  I wore one today to get my annual mole patrol done...no whack a mole this year thank goodness.

Here is what the mask mandate says from the https://governor.alabama.gov/assets/2020/07/Coronavirus.MaskOrderFAQ.0720na.pdf.

You have to wear a mask when you are in public and in close contact with other people. Specifically, the order says to wear a mask when you are within six feet of a person from another household in any of the following places: (a) an indoor space open to the public; (b) a vehicle operated by a transportation service; and (c) an outdoor public space where ten or more people are gathered.

And it specifically exempts people on the lake so I am golden!

Even though I don't think masks are effective these measures seem reasonable to me and I'll follow them when I need to.  And I can assure you that I will continue to social distance, wash my hands, use hand sanitizer, etc. diligently because they actually work.

I have stated this from the beginning so please do us all a favor and stop misrepresenting what I wrote and making silly statements like I won't come to Alabama.  I'll be there this weekend with my oldest son and a group of his friends.  Can't wait!  See you at mass on Sunday morning?

Where do you see that it exempts people on the lake?  I can't find that.  Unless you are confining your activities to those in your household?

We both know, the lake is not really the problem. Maybe Wind Creek Park, but I don't now much about what they do over there. Plenty of space for social distancing and unless you are a social butterfly, most people are just on their watercraft or hanging out at home.  The bigger problem is the beach with it's bars and hang outs that put people in close proximity. The grocery store here is a problem with visitors showing up with a pack of kids with no masks and no interest in even trying to social distance.

I am glad to see that at least they put some teeth behind it.  So often there are mandates that mean less than nothing.

Look at Section 2.b.iii which states: Any person who is in a swimming pool, lake, water attraction, or similar body of water, though wearing a face covering or social distancing is strongly encouraged if safe and practicable.

I want to see someone in the water with a mask...... I think that is really intended to cover the beaches or other water hangouts.  As I said, I don't think the lake is really the problem.

It says lake and that's what it means.  And of course you are right about it not being practicable to wear one on the lake.  I will test it this weekend and let you know how it goes as we will be burning a lot of gas for sure.  As I said, not necessary in my view but at least reasonable.

I have my Kay Ivey Mask ready in case I go somewhere where the sky is falling.  I tried it on Lamb Chop (our pointer puppy's dog toy) so that I could be comfortable that it will protect me as well as it will for her.  Please see attached image:

I will wear a mask in Walmart but doubt I will be elsewhere.  Perhaps a better question, how many people will be killed/attacked due to this mandate (which is not legal)?

Thats my thinking.  In order for the court to levy a fine one must have broken a law and been convicted in court.  A govenors EDICT is NOT LAW.  So if they fine me I will demad a trial by jury so that I at least get  my $500 worth.  Or better yet tell them I will take the jail time so it costs them, not make them money.  But that will only be after as many appeals as I can drag it out.

Governor seems to suggest it will not be enforced.  Actually the order is from Dr. Harris on behalf of the health board.  I suspect the board knows nothing about it.

it's got a $500 fine attached for non-compliance, so let me know how that goes for you.  A lot of Karens and Kevins will be out there calling the police when people don't comply.  Not that I will.

What a sad commentary on where Trumpism has taken us to.

Not sure about Alabama but most states have passed laws that give the Governor certain authority to do things like this.  But the bigger question is whether the police will be willing to enforce it.  I doubt it seriously in the smaller towns but who knows.

You must not have read my posts. I will not comply and I will not pay. The left is all.about resistance it damn high time the sane falls start to resist. The riots have proven the whole thing was a fraud. If they want to fine folks they have to pass a LAW not an edict from the govenor.  I also expect to see a lot of sheriffs and police chiefs saying they ain't enforcing it either.

I am not sheeple and will not comply. Time for civil disobedience is upon us.
