Yesterday around 7 we went through intersection of 49 and 50- roadblock there by 10-12 officers checked my license and registration. Seemed like many officers for just checkpoint, anyone know information.

Interesting.  This was a Monday night? I think I recall them doing this on a Sunday night in the past trying to snag people leaving after a day of drinking on the lake.  I know there were some Amber alerts so maybe that was what they were doing but I didn't think that happened on Monday.

I have been advised by my attorney that if I come across a road block like this you should not roll down your window and simply hold your license and registration up to the window so they can see it.  I get his point but my inclination is to comply even though I know I don't have to talk to them.  There is a really funny video by two lawyers advising people to never talk to the police regardless of innocence.  One would lay out a scenario and then ask the other what the person should do and the guy would say "Shut the #@&* up!"  It was pretty funny. 

Another I saw was a law professor class about this same issue and his advice was the same, never say anything to the police even if you are innocent or are doing nothing wrong.  Both videos had a whole slew of examples where people did and got royally screwed despite having been innocent.  Their point is that even if you eventually get off your life will never be the same.  The goal is to never get to that point.  They advise that the only thing you should say is, "Am I being detained?"  If the officer says no then follow up with, "Then and I free to leave?"  If the police say no, then ask them "Am I being arrested and what is the charge?"  If they say no go back to asking about being detained and can I leave.  Again, I'm not advising anyone do this but it is well within your rights.

I've been pulled over before on back roads for a license and registration checks.  Apparently these work because it always seems like there are several cars being detained.  That is an odd time for a license and regulation check - perhaps there was a robbery, or perhaps they were looking for someone specific.  

The Amber Alert was on Tuesday.
