So… it’s true. I thought it was just another FaceBook fabrication. BUT… Nick Saban did indeed, lead his players in a support march for the anarchist Black Lives Matter.

I thought it was just football. Now, I see that… at Alabama… it’s also about the politics of racial divisiveness. “Come On, Nick! How can you be so stupid as to be sucked into politics and condone anarchy?”

Won’t be watching the Crimson Tide of Racial Divide this season. Nick Saban has just pooped his own bed.

Please, GUS… DON’T BE STUPID!

It's all about recruiting.  Follow the money.

They are trying to spin it as an "equality" rally, it's just that noboby showed up but blm to this "equality" rally.  Of course we all know no other group was allowed, much less invited.

"Come On, Nick! How can you be so stupid as to be sucked into politics and condone anarchy?”

In a word "recruiting."  His (and all successful) college coaches' bread and butter comes from being able to recruit the top high school players, and you can rest assured that they (coaches) are all about the bread and butter.  Saban is a very fine coach, but he was mediocre during his stint at Michigan State.  From 1995 to 1997, under Saban Michigan State finished 6–5–1, 6–6, and 7–5. In comparison, MSU had finished 5–6, 6–6, and 5–6 (prior to NCAA forfeits) in 1992–1994.  He also had little success in the NFL during his brief fling with the Miami Dolphins.  The old adage "it's not the X's and O's it's the Jimmies and Joes" is not lost on him or most any other successful college coach.  Saban is inarguably the best recruiter in the business and given that probably 75% or more of his elite recruits are black, of course he is going to support the BLM movement, as will most any other successful college coach.  Stupid, he is not.

Racism is alive and well on the Forum.

So...

You are telling me that successful recruiting REQUIRES that the coach of one of the top ranking teams in the nation identifies with one or the other political position for the deciding factor whether a prospect will accept an invitation to... and scholarship at... said University.

THAT prospect would be dazzled enough by non-atheletic, insincere, patronizing blather to turn down other offers... in deference to the blather.  Seems to me, that further lowers the bar and is a racist commentary on a football program.

Perhaps Nick should start wearing his pants lower on his butt.  That might help too... just saying.

You are both still here as fine examples of the racism of low expectations.

You can always rely on the "Bobbsey Twins" to excel at low expectations.

Saban and most all other coaches (including Malzahn) tell us their players are just like family and they love them and want to be father figures to them.  They should make better use of their time and educate the players on the true nature of the anarchist group known as BLM.  They are not a civil rights organization and have no concern for the black family. These players that are marching in support of BLM don't know this, and unless Saban is stupid, he doesn't know it either.

At first I had the same reaction - but I slept on it and woke up with a different perspective.  I think that BLM is a political machine and cares nothing for black people, except to use them.  But this was billed as a walk for "social justice". not as a BLM march.  There were speeches too including blacks and whites.    With what we are seeing in the cities, I think this is far preferable than to let the anger or resentment boil over into something else.  Walking and talking about social justice doesn't seem so bad to me.

What is racist about ascribing his motivation to recruiting?  Unless you have been asleep for a while, which is entirely possible, there are far more black football players playing at the highest levels than other races.  They are clearly superior athletes which is why they dominate most college and professional sports.  That's a fact.

You might have a leg to stand on if you said we were cynical about his motivation and on that score you would be correct.  But racist?  That's nonsense......but I am sure other left wing nuts would agree with you as they see racism everywhere all the time.

Saban, like Smart, just checked it off the 'to do" list.  Now they have satisfied their boosters and can get back to coaching football and trying to win natties.

Yes, I think he saw that this was something he could for the players, since all the other sports teams were skipping games and practices.  Hopefully this will allow the players to refocus on football.
