The whole Lake Travis thing is hilarious. Apparently some of the boats began filling with water because somebody forgot to replace the drain plugs before putting in. A similar sequence of events occured on Lake Eufala, and the flotilla that was planned there had to be canceled.
How many brave MAGAts fell during the Battle of Lake Travis?
How long did it take for them to realize that yachts and yuuge cabin cruisers create wakes that will swamp a ski or bass boat if you get too close?
This was a flagrant case of boater suppression.
Dumbkirk, as it were.
Defending #45 now seems an odd hill to die on, but at least when you die he'll call you a loser and a sucker. And he will be right. For once.

Apples and oranges, bud. I made no claim, just asked two simple questions, one of which you still have not answered. In a previous post Archie claimed that teachers had gone to jail for what they have said, comparing it to what Trump said in a supposedly private conversation. I cited the case of an AF officer who, as a substitute teacher after retirement from the AF, went to jail for doing the same thing Biden was shown to do on multiple occasions. In response Archie made the claim about teachers going to jail for what they said and apparently is unable to substantiate that claim.

So much for the MAGAt spin some of y'all have been trying to put on this story. Here's what really happened.
"Since I live on Lake Travis where the recent Texas boat parade fiasco happened, several people have asked me for my take on the situation, so here you go:
Most importantly there were no deaths. There is at least one person still in the hospital, he is still in the ICU with a broken back.
I heard of 13 vessels that were swamped or sunk, law enforcement has not released an official number yet.
Before the parade started, Lake Travis was CALM with no waves larger than ½ foot, the maximum wind gusts were less than 10kts.
When the parade started multiple boats cranked up their motors to show off and began creating excessive wakes. Vessels were driving at unsafe speeds in close proximity. This is what created the dangerous conditions that swamped/sunk vessels. Even after vessels started sinking, there was no cooperation with law enforcement and emergency personnel to slow down and/or reduce the wakes. First responders had to deal with rescuing people out of the water from sinking boats WHILE OTHER BOATS passed at close distances at speeds that created more wakes and even more dangerous conditions.
The majority of vessels involved showed ZERO CONCERN for the well being of others, or the damage that they were causing with their wakes. All of this could have been averted had they driven their vessels at slower speeds and at safer distances.
So far, I understand that all of the damaged vessels were involved in the parade.
We are still awaiting the official report from the Travis County Sheriff's office that has jurisdiction over Lake Travis.
PS I was at the dock during all of this, I generally do not leave the dock on holiday weekends, too many amateurs and drunks on the water for Labor Day, the 4th of July, and Memorial Day weekends."

You already gave your opinion regarding them being idiots. The other question remains unanswered and has a direct bearing on whether they were indeed being reckless or just inexperienced and caught unaware. Have you ever attended a Lake Martin July 4th fireworks display by boat, then piloted your boat through the free for all at the end to get back home? It isn't a place for the faint of heart or the inexperienced boater, and indeed there are some idiots in that annual melee, but I doubt they all vote Republican.

Experience or no experience....when the waves started it was time to put on the lifejackets. If anyone piloting a boat who is unaware or disregards it...then they are idiots.
After a few Sundays on the lake when we first purchased our pontoon, my wife said let's agree to use it on weekdays. As to July 4th, no way would I go to a night of fireworks by boat.
The big difference is all those attending the Lake Martin July 4th and the Texas Lake were obviously Trump supporters.

Was out on Martin yesterday with seven others and while needing to be more alert than usual and practicing good boat etiquette, we were never in danger. Also been to the fireworks many times and the only real problem was a pop-up thunderstorm that had rain so hard my daughter thought she was being electrocuted. She and a couple others were in the front seats in our runabout but quickly decided the back seats were preferred when we went THROUGH a big wave instead of over it.
I don't believe in being irresponsible but do believe in living the one life I have. I won't cower are home just because there are two other boats on the water. And by the way, my wife is an adult capable of making her own decisions. Sorry yours has to put up with your seemingly cowardly outlook on things.

3 of the 5 vessels that took on water or sank were so accessible that they were towed to shore. Not 13.
The other 2 will be accessed and towed.
