So I have been careful to limit my contact with strangers as a way to limit the probabilitiy of contracting coronavirus.

After a visit by my granddaughter and great grandson a couple weeks ago, I learned that her (2) sisters in law, with whom she had significant contact, had coronavirus.  Granddaughter and great grandson were tested and both tests were positive.

I was concerned about the contact I had with them, so was very vigilant in my assessment of my personal condition in the ensuing time period.  What I did experience was a loss of taste and smell, but never had what would qualify as an elevated body temperature.  I had some mild congestion, but it was loose and not the dry cough attributed to coronavirus.

At our grandson's dinner tonight I told my granddaughter I thought she had given the virus to me and what she told me was very revealing.  She, too lost taste and smell for a while but also had no elevated body temperature.  Symptoms identical to mine.  She, as I feel perfectly fine now.

So, my conclusion is that we both contracted a mild version of coronavirus, but have recovered with no lasting effects.  Getting the virus is not a death sentence, and while some with pre-existing conditions experience far worse outcomes, getting it doesn't necessarily cause one to shop casket options.

For context, I am 75 years old but consider myself to be in good health.

Never has been despite the panic porn in the media.  Of all the deaths the average age was 78 with an average of 2.6 co-morbidities.  Those of the people we should have been protecting and leave the rest of us to live our lives and do what we think is reasonable to protect those that are at risk.

While I haven't been tested I suspect I had it back in February.  Don't recall the loss of taste or smell but I wasn't looking for it.  But I did have a mild dry cough and some congestion for several days.  No fever but I had pneumonia and didn't have a fever so that's not a particularly good sign for me for some reason.

The response to this pandemic has been driven by politics and not science.

Were you tested?

No, but my granddaughter and great grandson tested positive.  We spent time with her and great grandson after they got it but before they were tested, and her symptoms were identical to mine.  Had I started running a temp I would have called my family doctor immediately.  Since I may have experienced a mild version of it (or I killed it with Bombay Sapphire on the rocks, lol) I am particularly careful to give plenty of space around strangers and mask up if going into a public place like a gocery store.  The mask may or may not reduce the chance I might pass it along to someone that is high risk, but if I don't wear it I put them at risk for sure.
