Alabama’s GOP lieutenant governor called mask rules an ‘overstep.’ Now he’s tested positive for the coronavirus.

When Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) ordered a statewide mask mandate in July as coronavirus deaths surged to record levels, her second-in-command blasted the move.

Wearing a face mask and maintaining social distancing are among the best ways to slow the spread of COVID-19. However, it’s an overstep that infringes upon the property rights of business owners and the ability of individuals to make their own health decisions.

So lets ask the question here - is the alarming rise caused by the small minority of people not wearing a mask?  99% of the people I see at stores/restaurants/off their property are wearing masks.  Are you indicating that we are now having this alarming rise from such a small # of people who may be Covid negative and do not want to wear a mask?

Or is the mask not as useful as you keep harping and that people who are Covid postive(with or without symptoms) and wearing a mask are not as safe as you seem to want to make as a coorelation?

I almost hope for some of that schadenfreude that Antifatech keeps harping on - If you catch Covid with your demands of wear the mask like me - what are you going to blame your infection on?

At this point I think if you did catch Covid you would not admit it here because either you were not wearing your mask, or you have not bothered to do the common sense things like washing your hands that have helped protect people from the cold and flu viruses prior to this year.

Goofy, did not read the paper I cited where 85% of the people that tested positive for the Wuhan ChiCom Chinese virus wore a mask always or almost always and only 15% did not?  Don't bother answering......  His position about the mask mandate had nothing to do with getting the virus.  Please stop being so dumb.....it's really tedious.

But a republican who said that mandating a mask was against rights and liberties of people and business and now he has it, that right there is proof that mask mandates work, if you speak out against mask mandates you get the Covid.

MM - how is it that you do not catch Covid 15 times a day????  It is amazing you are not on a ventilator.  Maybe typing about masks being usless is not the same as a press conference.  Maybe it is saying bad things about masks while giving an interview - maybe its not the masks at all that is the problem - but maybe it is the news media instead that is causing it.  It is starting to make sense now.

Everywhere Covid is, the news media is there to cover it.  The news media is the superspreaders!!!!! OMG the sky is falling.

It is indeed a miracle. The reason I have been safe so far is that I am diligent about the following: 1) social distancing whether I am wearing the mask or not...especially staying away from the idiots wearing a mask and not staying away from me; 2) diligent personal hygiene; 3) having our employees take their temp every morning before they enter the office; and 4) telling our employees to stay home if they exhibit any symptoms whatsoever.  I go to restaurants, have flown on the airlines, go to stores and all that......but I don't view the mask as any protection at all so I do all the preceding.  And frankly it could be that I am just one of the vast majority that haven't gotten it.....or maybe back in January when I had an upper respiratory infection it may have been the Chinese virus and I am now immune.  

Speaking of irony, I finally have an employee from our Houston that caught the virus from his son.  He was maniacal about wearing a mask.  And despite being in his 60's he has very mild symptoms and is recovering quickly.
