What is going on next to Ruby Tuesday's?  Lots of dirt being moved.

I've heard it is going to be a coffee place.  Scooters or something like that.  Same people that own the movie theatre and Who's Cafe.  At least that is what I read on FB.

most towns/cities would give their left testicle &  bend over backwards to have  a 280 corridor to attract business--AC doesnt appear to share that ideal--not new business friendly

Depends on how much the new business sucks up to certain old businesses...

What do you think the new mayor will do in the near future? Will he fall in line with the ole boys from Russell or will he go out and bring new businesses into the Alex City/Lake Martin area?

I'm optimistic for the new mayor.  He's been pretty outspoken about the need for change and transparency, in the past.  He has a tough battle since Russell is deeply entrenched in Alex City and so many people don't want change - they want things to go back to how they used to be- not move forward.  And he has to fight the demographics which are not condusive to attracting new businesses.  That's the reason that the Publix decided not to come to Alex City.  As far as downtown, someone needs to decide if they are going to cater to the population that makes up Alex City - blue collar, low income or if they are going to try to entice people on the lake.  They want to develop the 280 corridor, but they need individuals willing to invest.  They did a study a couple of years ago that indicated that a number of franchises wanted to come, but they needed people with money to invest.

New mayor can’t hurt anything.  It’s amazing how backward Alex City has become.  Last I read, the 9th poorest city, its size in the state.  Interesting to go to social and city events and see the old crowd strut around like they own the place....it’s what I call “Misplaced Southern Aristocracy”.  AC has managed to avoid every chance to grow into the next century, which is here...they’re still in 1920’s.  AC is one of a few “non-black belt” towns that acts totally like a dying black belt.  Dadeville has already entered the tomb, BTW.  Gone, done, finished.

Families in Dadeville used to send their kids to AC for decent school....now they have to sneak them into Auburn...only choice.
