Oh and for Goofy, the source of this is the NYT so I freely admit it could be factually incorrect.  But it does match other sources.

I believe a more rational interpretation of the graph would be that cases, hospitalizations and deaths have spiked secondary to Christmas and New Year travel and get togethers. They are now decreasing and probably will slowly start back increasing as the mutant strains become more prevalent.

I would agree with that the holidays may have had some impact but that doesn't explain a 40% drop nor the timing of the drop.  The incubation period of the virus is 10-14 days so the Christmas holiday would manifest itself with new cases starting around the 2nd or 3rd of January and continuing for some time after as the new cases cause new cases with another 10-14 day delay.  And the New Years spike in cases would have occurred sometime around the 10th of January and continuing for some time afterward. So what we are seeing is not what we expect.  In essence the drop happened around the time the peak of new cases should have been manifested.

And this is just the peak in new cases which does not take into account hospitalizations which would be even more delayed than new cases, (people get sick and then get bad enough to require hospitalization) which is the same precipitous drop we saw with cases starting around the certification.  So with the peak happening coincident with the certification of the election and then dropping is only partially explained by the holidays.....very partially.  But I agree there is probably some of that in the numbers but clearly not enough to account for the miraculous drop.  Any other suggestions?

You know, I don't care.  I have 6 friends that have had the virus, 3 of which were hospitalized; one of whom died.  I'm wearing my mask, listening to the scientists and hoping that I can get the vaccine, before I get sick. 

I've never been quite sure what you are trying to prove, MM.  That there haven't been a lot of deaths?  That they over-reported the numbers?  What possible difference can that make to all the people that died?

You know the ones that had to sit in a parking lot somewhere while their loved ones died ALONE because of a a FAKE pandemic.  Wear your mask all you want.  It is NOTHING more than virtue signalling theat you think you are better than others, especially those of us that refuse to wear one.  And another thing, you aren't listening to scientist, YOU ARE LISTENING TO POLITICAL HACKS.  Did you double up masks during the week or so that the "top scientists Fauci" foolishly said you should?  If not then why listen to any of them at any time? 

I know more than six foks that have had it.  Had dinner with two friends last night who both had it.  I have 4 family members that that had it, one while under going cancer treatment.  Only one had to be hospitalized and he stayed in over two weeks and he and my sister were meticulous about masks because of my sisters COPD.  It has a blended survival rate of 99.4%. If Polio had that we wouldn't have a vaccine today becuase nobody would have looked for one.

Actually it would make a difference to me to have a death of a friend or a loved one mischaracterized as a Wuhan virus death for political reasons.  There's other reasons it matters, big reasons.  The Democrats and politicized science overstated and overreacted to the pandemic for political purposes and now that it no longer makes a difference they are taking a different tact.  And because of what they did millions of Americans had their lives and livelihood turned upside down and for some utterly ruined.  Millions of children were denied the education that they deserve.  People committed suicide, turned to alcohol or drugs.  I actually care about those people, do you?!?!?

Wonder why we didn't see a similar huge dropoff at Thanksgiving?  As for Goofy's source, I suggest you read it all instead of the "theory" he parsed out of it.  They are clearly guessing at what caused the spike and sudden drop as am I.  If you think you are more qualified than I am to understand data then God help anyone that comes to you for help.  And if you blindly believe all the scientists and doctors that have been all over the place on pretty much everything related to the CihCom virus then may God have mercy on their souls because they are doomed if they take your advice. 

And by the way, my very eminently qualified and experienced internist agrees with me. The tests wildly overstated cases.  I will take his opinion over some dude that claims to be "more qualified" than little old me.  Oh and by the way, he does recommend getting the vaccine although for someone as healthy as me he doesn't think I should rush out and get it.  Doesn't matter as yet since my group isn't eligible.

It's pure emotion and irrational fear on her part, not science.  That is the thing about involuntary risk.  Most people are willing to do anything they are told if it gives them a sense it will help them avoid.  People with training in science are much less susecptible because we are trained to look at data and make logical conclusions.  You could put all the data in the world in front of most people and they will still follow like sheeple whatever the govt tells them to do.  It's human nature.  And while people blindly do whatever they are told to avoid involuntary risk they accept significantly greater voluntary risk every day.  That too is human nature.

I care about people in general.  One woman I know, a cancer survivor with a heart condition - from all the radiation she had to endure, was in the hospital for 2 weeks and survived.  Another woman I know, had corona, was hospitalized, released and continued to have migraine like headaches - seems her carotted artery was damaged by the virus and she died quite suddenly. Another woman I know had Corona, was able to recover at home, but her husband, who is active and healthy, ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks in ICU, one oxygen decibel away from being put on a ventilator.  This woman's mother, who is 87, had corona was in the hospital and then recovered at home.  Another woman I know just went progressively downhill and died.  She was in her 40s with no health issues.  

But for me, the thing is this.   I don't care how they count it whether it is a monster pandemic or something smaller, the Chinese unleashed it on the world so they could go about their business taking the focus off them.  I just don't get why this is so important to you.  I'm not ignoring scientists, I am listening to scientists; I'm listening to the Drs. who are on the front lines.  I'm not running scared behind my mask.  But for me wearing a mask is a small thing.  I don't know if it was smart to close down the economy, or take kids out of scool or any of those things- I'm gong to let the historians figure that out.  

But I guess if it makes you and a handful of others feel better - like you have figured somethig big out- then go for it.  You and other just have an opinion, based on incomplete data.  You are not saving the world.

I know far more people in the last year that have died from other causes than I do from the virus.  You can provide all the stories you want about people you know but you'll never convince me that you know for sure they died from the virus given the way the testing is done and the financial incentive of hospitals to call as much as they can the virus.  And those extra funds paid to hospitals are paid for by working Americans.

As I have said repeatedly, if wearing a mask makes you feel better then do it.  But don't be lulled into a false sense of security and if I were you I would pretend you aren't wearing one and follow the other measures.  They actually work.  I wear one when I need to in order to go where I want.  Wear one every Sunday to mass because that is what they've asked us to do.  Unlike you, I am not willing to sacrifice my common sense for no reason because that is what sheeple do, not someone that makes decisions based on the facts and reality.  I never would have thought Americans could be so susceptible to fear mongering and falsehoods but I was apparently wrong.
