Subject:   How's that renewable energy working Texas?

So apparently the Electric Reliability Council....an ironic name for sure.....has been spending billions on wind power in a state with more natural gas than the entire remaining lower 47 states combined.  And lo and behold, they are having rolling blackouts ala California because the turbines are frozen.  Welcome to the New Green Death Deal folks.  How many Texans will freeze to death as a result of this misguided and ineffective policy?  Lots.  How much globaloney will be avoided with unreliable wind and solar power?  None.

This is what happens when your state capitol is a communist city filled with delusional left wing nuts.

Irony may be the best medicine for Dems, but I doubt they understand.

It has always been a mystery to me why the left will continue to pursue policies with an unbroken history of failure that varies only in degree of disaster? From communism to Global Warming they march as lemmings breathlessy expecting a success. But, always, the failure is someone else's fault. Soon we will find out things that Trump screwed up that he didn't even know existed! I was always taught to expand on success and shun failure.

Now we are told that we must give up our 2nd amendment for every one's safety. They fail to realize that the 2nd amendment was to protect us from THEM! As Kippling said:

Whem the camberian layers were forming

                                               they promised perpetual peace

they said if we gave up our weapons

the wars of the tribe would cease

                                                       But when we disarmed

                                                       they enslaved us and

delivered us bound to our foe

And the Gods of the copy book heading said

stick to the devil you know!

Now, with the stroke of a pin, we have miraculously gone from energy independence to depending on questionable allies. And now are are suppose to laud their decisions! They reminds me of Gen. Jublitation T. Cornpone!

The last I heard Texas was all RED....why blame the Left for the Right's screwup? The  Right approved those wind mills.

Even some of the natural gas systems have become victims of this bitter cold weather.  The most reliable way to generate electricity is with nuclear energy and coal-fired power plants.  But the good news is the owners of the wind farms will continue to get revenue through their government subsidies whether they generate any power or not.

Apparently you have never been to Austin.  But it's a fair point that the Republicans should know better.  My main point is that even in a fossil fuel rich state like Texas we can see exactly what the issues are related to so-called green energy.  It is not reliable.  Wind and solar will never be reliable and cannot replace fossil fuels....unless of course we are willing to accept the deaths of the poor around the world by moving away from inexpensive, reliable sources of energy such as fossil fuels.  They can and will be replaced but it's going to take decades, if not longer.

California should have been the canary in the coal mine but people can't seem to learn from the mistakes of others.

Excellent presentation of thoughts from all of you.  But please remember everything you say is a minority position now and your ranks are dwindling like sand through an hour glass......and me and most of America thank God.

Texas is the only state that has refused to join one of the 2 national power grids.  Why, because the nasty old Federal Government ovresees the Eastern and Western grid so obviously the Great and Sovereign State of Texas could do it bigger and better without the interference of those socialistic feds.  At the peak 4 million customers (in people effected that equates to an AL, MS and AR) are freezing their butts off and there is no way for the feds to send power to help.  Of course Rick Perry has no problem, he says TX would rather face the blackout on their own than crawl to the feds for help.  Are you listen congress?

Cornyn and Cruz opposed aid to NJ and NY after Super Storm Sandy.  Wonder what they are planning to say now?

BTW: TX is out 30MW of power production, 10% of it is from wind and solar sources.  Wind generators in the upper midwest are designed to operate and have operated in conditions much more severe than those in TX.  To be sure, it is understandable that TX, where current conditions are so rare, did not see the need to spend extra to cover themselves in such rare conditions, after all how many snowplows does Miami own, but perhaps they might want to rethink that going forward.

Big government sucks so Texas is on their own as Archie wrote. Here is a brief summary of the problem when you are RED and feel you are better than the rest of the USA.

Compounding the issue is that Texas's electric system of ERCOT is isolated from the rest of the country, partly as a way to avoid federal regulation. So it cannot simply import power from elsewhere to make up for the shortage.
Texas produces more power than any other state. Here's why it went dark anyway

"When it comes to electricity, what happens in Texas stays in Texas," said Dan Cohan, associate professor of environmental engineering at Rice University. "That has really come back to bite us."

in Texas tonight are feeling about their very right wing red state's insistance on pursuit of the ''policies with an unbroken history of failure''?

10 years ago when TX was hit by a similar but less destructive storm, an analysis after the event recommended the state legislature enact measures to require the winterization of the electric grid.  In true TX style the lawmakesr ''recommended'' efforts to winterize and, also in true TX style, the private utility producers and providers ignored the recommendations.  Are you paying attention TX voters?
