The chairman of the Washington County, PA Repubican party defended their censure of Sen Pat Toomey for voting to convict Donald Trump by saying out loud in an interview that it was done because ''we didn't send him there to vote his conscience, or do the right thing.''  Does that reflect the feelings of the GOPers on this forum?  Really?

If we are to the point where our political parties are succeeding in demanding every follower take a litmus test elevating loyalty to the party over love of the country and above doing ''the right thing'', then we might as well surrender to authoritarianism now witout further bother.

This is how a representative republic is supposed to operate.  No Dem votes off the reservation these days because they do what they are told by their elite, otherwise their money dries up. the voters opinion be damned.  The problem with your party Archie, is that your voters do what they are told too, rarely an independent opinion.  If that is how you define your representation, it makes sense that you voice your opinions here, because no one in Washington is bothering to listen to you.

Not about GF or me or those who oppose Trump but about the descent of the Republican party into the cesspool.  It is a sad while speaking volumns about what is happening to the once proud and honorable GOP.  Obviously CRD agrees with the GQP chairman from PA...if you are a GQP elected official don't even think about voting for what your conscience and the facts before you says is right if Dear LeaderTrump says otherwise!!

Just wait a few more months until the "cookie" crumbles. Hiden/Biden has been President for less than a month and he has already turned things upside down(shut down the Keystone pipeline; created Border crisis and will give millions of illegal immigrants citizenship and free healthcare, hoping to turn Texas into a "blue" state; Green climate mess; supports students back in school one day a week; allowing transgenders to compete as different from their sex at birth; is failing in providing leadership to get the country back to work; and many more can be added to this list as the days go by). You are right, the once proud and relatively conservative GOP under Reagan leadership has morphed into the DC Uniparty.  The struggle that you describe is much needed and will occur prior to 2022 under Trump leadership, as long as Trump reigns in his often times obstructive ego and learns to work smartly with both factions in the party.  He continues to live rent free in your head Archie and his lot size is ever expanding.
