I've been striper fishing on the Alabama River a bunch, but I've never tried Lake Martin. I've heard it's good if you know what you're doing. Is it best fishing above or below the dam? I use a sassy shad and live shad on the river. Are those good bait at the lake? How deep should I be fishing this time of year. Any info is helpful and would be appreciated by me and my fishing buddies. Thanks...

Well, Below the dam can be a bit dangerous... of course. You can walk, or take your boat. But if you take your boat I highly advise you talk to someone who knows those waters well because you could get in trouble quick (old bridge beams, ect.....) It has been a blast the few times I have done it by shore (catching them in the swift water when the turbines are on is a thrill!!) I have taken my small 14ft boat several times but seem to have better luck from shore. I fish with a 6 inch white grub with a red head. I cast it into the swift water from the east side of the shore below the dam. You might try a spoon...... but they seem to like large bait in the swift water.
For lake fishing try night. Anchor in 50ft or so of water and fish with 4-5 poles 20-30 ft deep if you are wanting to catch large stripe. I use crappie minnows.... or sometimes small brim, or spottails when I can catch them. Personally, I tie up under the 6th column under the Kowleidga bridge. I have caught alot of 15-25 pounders with this method....
But, mayb i'm the only weird guy that fishes like this...... heh, whatever works.... right?

Some lakes have the history of their old-time and they have the great access on the all quality that people want to know about them. Some are found the solution and posted at http://allessayvikings.com/studymoose-review/ so you may found it easily.
