I have been using River North Marina for all my maintenance. Any other recommendations out there?? I figure since they are a Sea Ray dealer, they are my best bet.

Ricky Ray
If you bought the boat there they should prioritize you on the list of people to fix first in the summer. After a few years a lot of dealers forget who you are. Just because they are a Sea Ray Dealer doesnt mean they are the only ones who can fix a Sea Ray. All boats use a lot of the same components from their suppliers. IE Mercruiser engines are usd in a ton of boats. Most mechanics are trained in a lot of differnt engines. The area of the lake where you stay usually dictates wherer most people take their boats to be repaired. I know several people who are extreemly talented around the lake. But like anything everyone has a differnt opnion on who is better than the other. If you have a proplem, post it and we can make a recomendation on where to take it or how to fix it yourself.

You should probably have your boat winterized at the same place that services it. That way, they will have continuous records so will know the interval since the impeller and/or anodes were replaced, oil changed or other service issues addressed.

For winterization, be sure that they change the oil and filter before storing as oil tends to turn acidic over a winter. Replace the fuel filter. Fuel treatment should be added to the fuel tank, the lower unit gear lube checked and replaced if bad or if water present (looks milky) and the engine fogged to lubricate the internals. Water jacket water should be drained and/or replaced with potable antifreeze (Not the automotive kind! - you will be discharging it in the lake next Spring! The correct stuff is blue in color!) If your boat has a sink or shower, be sure the put some potable antifreeze in there, too. The battery should be disconnected and stored in a well ventilated area. All of the above, except the antifreeze, applies to 4 stroke outboards as well as Inboard/Outboards.

We recommend that any tuneup activity be postponed until Spring -just before you intend to use it and when fresh fuel will be introduced.

The water pump impeller should be replaced every other year. It is simple and cheap to do, but not doing it in a preventive mode may ruin a weekend next year and allow your engine to overheat and be ruined. There are anodes on the foot of most I/O units that handle electrolysis sacrificially. (They absorb stray electric current and self destruct rather than allowing this current to ruin other hardware on your engine and boat). They should be replaced when pitted and corroded very much.

Of course, if all this sounds a little overwhelming, you could take it to your friendly marine service center and have it done professionallY!

I know several of the Marinas carry AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants. Petrolium based lubricants simply do not hold up like the AMSOIL Synthetics do. Ask your Marina to use AMSOIL products to service your boat @ Winterization. Jeff Ellis @ The Ridge & & Tommy @ Kowaliga I know carry AMSOIL. They are both Russell Marinas as well as River North so I would think River North carries it as well or can get it.

Another point on winterizing. My boats owners manuals spells out explicit directions on how to winterize. I am inclined enough to do it myself. If you want to try, get the manual out and follow it to the letter. Caution,,if you dont know what things like transmission coolers or impellers are you will be better off opening your wallet instead of your toolbox.
