We visited a friend who has a place on Lake Eufala. The lake is full of big fat hungry gators (and I do not mean UF Gators although there may have been a few of those around too)!! I certainly don't want to scare anyone but Lake Eufala is not that far away. Has anyone ever seen a gator on Lake Martin?

Just click on the little magnifying glass on the Forum page and then type in alligator in the search function. You will find more discussions about that subject on the Forum than you will be able to read in an afternoon. Even one picture that I am still laughing about with an alligator supposedly on Lake Marin with a deer in its jaws. To summarize; No one on the Forum has ever made the claim to having personally seen an alligator on Lake Martin or at least lived to tell of it (LOL).

We're originally from Dothan so we've spent alot of time fishing on Lake Eufaula. You can hear the gators' mating calls at night, but we've never seen one during the day. Now, Lake Seminole IS full of gators. They will follow you as you fish, staying approx. 20 feet away from the boat. That is scary. Luckily, I've never heard a gator's mating call at Lake Martin. However, the snakes this summer on Lake Martin are freaking me out.

I have never seen an alligator in Lake Martin and doubt very seriously that there are any there. The water in the lake is deep, clear, and contains little vegetation. . .not very appealing to gators. I will, however, tell you that I have seen 3 alligators in the Alabama river with in a boat ride of Montgomery. All 3 (one of the sightings could have been a repeat sighting of the same gator. . .but a third gator was noticably diff.) were south of Montgomery, near the Lowndes county line area. There the river is more shallow and has a lot of Cypress trees and other aquatic growth. 2 of them were rather large gators (over 8 ft; these 2 sightings might have been same gator). The other was small (4 ft or so).

2 or 3 gators on hundreds of miles of local rivers sure is far from an infestation. . .id say that worrying about gators on area waters ranks just above my concerns for UFO's landing in my backyard.

Maybe we need some gators to eat the snakes!! We've seen several snakes this summer. Mostly early in the morning and just before dark. Not sure what kind they are. Cobras most likely.

some years ago the Opelika-Auburn News had a picture of a large gator crossing a field south of Auburn. This was during a very dry summer. Have not researched the paper archive to see if I could locate the piece. If a gator was that close to Auburn, maybe it is just a matter of time before they find our lake?

Have never seen one on Martin. However, if you go under Barron Bridge and travel upstream on Blue Creek for about one-half mile or so, that sure looks like gator habitat to me.

I have fished all the way into BC as far as you can go. I never saw any alligators but the habitat is perfect for them. The Carp will scare you during the spring with all the noise they make.

A couple of years ago there was a regular forum visitor who began building a fence around the entire shoreline. It wasn't for the purpose of keeping the gators out of the lake. He gave us daily updates on his progress. I miss his posts. :)

What? Nobody has ever heard of the gator over by the old ski club? Isn't it strange that there is not a ski club there anymore? Hmmmmm. (in a sarcastic tone)
