My ski boat broke down for the last time. I've been keeping it running for years but have retired it. Our old Seado was almost used up when we got it and when it caught on fire I retired it.

I'm considering buying a new PWC or two used ones and I am soliciting opinions, especially from a mechanics veiwpoint and a reliability standpoint....ones that are OK and ones to stay away from. I don't need to break any speed records either.

I like the new models with 4 stroke power. I think all the makes are dependable if maintained properly. You want the ski-boat fixed?

I gave the ski boat to my uncle...he'll fix it. It seems that the Honda's are the most expensive and the Seado's and Yamaha's are the most popular. In this area, is one easier to maintain as far as parts availability or parts prices?

My opinion is that the seadoo four stroke is about as good as it gets for low maintaince and cost to operate.I would stay far far away from the big yamaha two strokes as they are really bad news.We have only had one instance of a four stroke seadoo with engine damage around here,it is sitting on my lot now for repairs. The customer sucked up a ski rope at high spped and it bound up the driveshaft and snapped the end of the crankshaft off where the coupler goes on.The hondas are great but not available here nor are parts avail here. The yamaha four stroke is good, not as good as the seadoo but it should be fine for most usage.

It seems that the consensus, both here and from talking around, is that the four strokes are the recommendation. As far as the maturity of the PWC four stroke, what year models would you begin your search for used PWC's? What about Kawasaki, Polaris?

Try the Kawasakis at Lakeside Marine at Blue Creek.Just bought a 15f from them. They are at the top with concerns to reliability, pretty cheep too compared to the Hondas.Sea Donts I would personaly stay away from. They have had alot of trouble with their superchargers. The main thing i hate about the Sea Donts is service if they do break down.Have a Gti and had some trouble with it , took it to one of the Russell Marinas and was told it would be 3 weeks before they could even look at itHad trouble with my Tigershark and took it to Lakeside, had it back in 3 days so i went and got my Sea Dont from the Russell Marina, they still told me it would be 3 weeks before the could even look at it and had my Sea Dont back in 4 days.Bottom line The Russell Marina have some of the worst service i have ever seam.Liked some of the new Sea Donts this year but with the service at the Russell Marinas decided on the Kawasaki. I am very glad i did.

Does Lake Side Marina work on Sea Doos?

Yes the only problem they can not fix is electrical.I thik for that you have to have the software and since they do not sell Sea donts they do not have the equipment. For all other problems they are a lot faster than the Russell Marinas
