I missed this weekend due to some commitments but heading up next weekend. I'll be hosting an annual fishing trip for two of my ol' Marine Corps buddies and I'm hoping we can find the fish. Anyone had any luck on the North end of the lake? Thanks for any insight!!

If you are talking about the north end around Dadeville, then i can help. In the eary morning, before the sun gets above the tree tops, through a buzz bait or zara spook around boat docks and shallow points. This will give you some great topwater action on spotted bass and largemouth bass. Once the sun gets on up put on a texas rig with any dark color of green/green pumpkin seed. Stay aroung the boat docks and shallow points. Hit every dock you come to and more than likley there will be a bass somewhere on that dock. You can also try a shallow running crankbait around the docks or on any shallow flat or point. Also try a carolina-rig on the same points and flats.
Now the bass are getting reay to or are alreay on the bed so you could also try sight fishing in the backs of coves or shallow banks. I belive your best bet to catch alot of fish is to stay around the docks. If you want any tips on the crappie let me know. Good luck and good fishing!!

Thanks a bunch for the info Bass25! We'll give it a try. I'm actually up above the 280 bridge but frequently get down into the Manoy Creek area to fish so I greatly appreciate the insight. If you see a dark blue Sea Ark bass boat on the water down there, swing by and say hello!

I would love some crappie tips. How to catch them and what to catch them on. What depth and structure? Night or day?

Is crappie a generic name for panfish (sunfish; rock bass;perch) or is it a specific fish...?? And what is the normal bait? Sorry for such fundamental questions but who knows better than you guys!!

The Black Crappie is a large sunfish, although not as big as the Largemouth Bass. It grows up to 16 inches long and can weigh five pounds, but they are usually much smaller.

Black Crappie have a rounded body. The back of this fish is greenish and the sides are silvery with black markings. The belly is silvery without the markings.

Black Crappie live in warm ponds, lakes, streams, and resevoirs(Lake Martin). They are schooling fish, so they like to stay in groups.

Fishing,

Sorry, not much help here... I do know that there are usually a good bunch of boats up in the Camp ASCCA area while the crappie are hitting... I see them trolling in about 10-12 feet of water. I'm not sure what they are using or whether they are over any particular structure... I'm more a bass, striper, catfish fisherman since the wife and I enjoy eating those types of fish (she tends to have an allergic reaction of sorts to crappie and bream). Anyways, I hope you find someone that can give you better info then what I've provided.

I fish the Sandy creek and Manoy creek area for Crappie. I havent fished in the last few weeks but some of the guys i fish with have been catching more fish at night. They say the bite kinda turns off as it turns daylight which is unusual for this time of the year. But, i catch my fish on 1/32 oz jigheads with yellow/white, yellow/chartreuse, pearl or straight chartreuse jig bodies. Be sure if you fish around lights at night that you start outside the light where the light ends and the dark water starts, A lot of times the fish will hold just outside the light. I also catch fish in the dead timbers and blue creek areas of the lake the same way. Also if you can run across and Underwater lights make sure you fish them. Oh, by the way if you have never really fished for crappie just use a slow steady retrieve and watch you rodtip.

Hope I,m not too late with my post for your fishing trip. Manoys good but there are also some places up river where you can use this tactic and I have not left the lake lately without limiting out on bass and will usually catch many more. I use a Gr. Gourd Gr. Zoom U-tail worms [ if you can't find these Use Kudzu or one of the other greens. ] Spike the tail in Garlic or Crawfish spike it dye. Fish a Texas rig around docks and rock points working slowly. 3/8th and 1/4 ounce bullet weights. You probably won't catch a lot of monster bass but you will catch plenty and a 12 to 14 inch spot puts up a good fight. I caught 22 last Friday and had many more bites and did luck up ON A 5 LB. LARGEMOUTH. Hope this helps, post and let us know how you do.

Martin Fisherman - So far so good! We've had some luck with some bass using your technique but we've mostly had luck with some of the shallow diving crankbaits. We've also had a few catfish as well using minnows. Thanks again for your input. It has helped us put a few more fish in the boat. We've been spending most of our time above the train trestle on the north side of the lake and it's been a good trip so far... more to come for the rest of the weekend if the weather holds off! Have a great remainder of the weekend.

Me and a friend went Sat. and it was kinda tough with the high wind. We did manage to catch 21. Had a lot of bites but just couldn't get a hook set. We fished Sandy Creek, docks and rocks.

We went out late on Saturday and caught a few spots. When it got much later, we did some cat fishing and only ended up with one... All in all though, it was a great weekend. Hope yours was a good one as well.
