This was posted on another Lake Martin forum, but I think the fishermen here might have something to say:

"Do any of the bigger "name" marinas carry fishing tackle? I know they used to; I kept the Kowaliga Pro Shop in business when I was a kid. But I can't think of the last time I saw rods, reels, lures, etc. for sale in one of our marinas.

Have they stopped selling the stuff? If so, why? Fishing seems to be bigger than ever on the lake, but it appears that the fishermen are being ignored-- or worse-- by our marinas. That seems like an odd thing to do, since they should be one of the larger target markets on the lake."

A couple of years ago, I built a bait shop right next to our marina store on the water and stocked it with all sorts of artificial and live baits, tackle and fishing supplies. We advertised it in LML, on this website and at the store, but we lost most of the live bait we bought that year and gave it up.

Most fishermen on the lake trailer their boats, buy their bait, fuel, beer and ice at a roadside convenience store and their tackle at WalMart. By the time they get to the lake, the last thing they want to do is stop at sime marina - they want to wet their hooks!

The few remaining fishermen who live on the Lake in the area of the marina do not provide enough of a customer base to justify carrying much product, much less that with a short shelf life like live bait.

We tried it and now enjoy not having to deal with crickets, worms and dead minnows!

Bay Pine Marina (a little marina in...yep, Bay Pine) sells live bait. They stock in the mornings. Nice folks.
