When do the Stripes and Whites start to run up the river? Has anyone ever tried to go up and catch them, if so with what? Thanks!!

When the dogwoods bloom or really when the water temperature gets to about 60-65 degrees the stripers and whites run. Go to around Camp Alasca or Jaybird and throw white road runners and shad raps. Poping corks with white fluke baits or deer hair jigs also work if you see them busting. The white bass will hit these and also small crankbaits and crappie jigs.
The white bass and some stripes will also actually run up the backs of creeks as well. the back of Sandy, Madwin and Manoy can produce white bass on crankbaits and jigs with some stripes busting near dark. The stripes always seem to hold at the last deep water (20-30 ft) of the creek before it narrows.
Spring rains will push them back everywhere. When the water muddies pull back to the nearest clean water (mudlines are excellent place) and look for them holding on the graph. You can load the boat with a jigging spoon then.

One thing I would do is scout for tributary creeks that have a good flow. You might find a good run that hardly anyone else knows about. I found my white bass run that way. It is not one of the big creeks already mentioned, but it can provide some good action nonetheless. A good lake map should show the better feeder creeks.
