I'm looking for a fishing guide to take myself and a my 9 year old son out striper fishing. Does anyone have the name of a good guide? Is this the right time of year to go?

Jim Paramore is another excellent guide. Fishes mostly with live bait and guides mostly on Martin. He also has several guides that he works with so usually he can fit your schedule.

If I am not mistaken, the stripe on in the spawning season and you will have trouble finding but look up in the shallow creeks. Good luck with it and keep me updated if you find them.

I heard what sounded like a crack then a splash from 9:30 to 10:30 thursday night. But didnt catch anything. I never heard anything like it on a lake. I left a large bass minnow on hook out over night and my boy reeled in a large stripe the next morning. close to 20 lbs. Was that cracking sound stripe feeding out top at night? Sounded like a branch breaking.

That was probably carp spawning. They raise all kind of ruckus at night in the spring and you'll probably see them floating dead (alot of them seem to die after spawning). But it could have been stripers busting. Though I have never seen them busting at night.

Large catfish will do the same thing at night as carp, so it could have been anything.
