I caught some catfish with what looks like sores on them. They are otherwise healthy looking fish. The marks are on the body of the fish and the size of a quarter. and sometimes on both sides. What could cause this and are they bad to eat.. Thanks

It may be because they just got through spawning. Fish tend to get sores on them during the spawn. They should be ok to eat.

I have a pond with catfish in it and every spring when the water gets warm they get a fungus that causes sores on them, sometimes the sores are so bad that it will kill the fish. In the pond I can cure the fungus by adding salt to the water. I don't know if they get the same fungus in the lake or not but it sounds like the same thing.
