Does anyone know what the ramp is like at the park next to the civic center? Is it usable with the water so low? Is there a charge for this ramp. For that matter are there any public ramps that don't charge? We used to keep a boat on Martin and there were some public use ramps.

My ramp at my house is not usable right now because of the low depth.

A friend of mine lives by the Civic Center and he said last weekend a boat hit bottom and had to beach the boat to prevent capsizing. It is very shallow but if you know where the channel runs you can get there but I do not know about the ramp.

The old Marina Bay down close to Alpine Bay Golf course is closed and looking to be condominiums by next year. That ramp is close to our house and we use it to launch our Supra and Seadoos. They have an old lock box that has an old torn up sign from when the store was operational. We would leave $3 about every other weekend but recently someone cut the lock off the lock box and I am not leaving money for just anyone.

Other than that does anyone know of a free launch?

I don't know of any free ramps, but the old rabbit Branch Marina has good ramps - 3 of them. They charge $3.00 per launch.

Marina Bay and Rabbit Branch are each down river close to the dam. Rabbit Branch is on the Pell City side of the water and Marina Bay in on the Talladega side. Poor Branch is just upriver from Stemely Bridge. It is about the fourth slough upriver from Stemely bridge. I have a place in what we know as Lisa Cove which is the first slough upriver from Stemely bridge. My water is down to the point I can't tie the boat at the pier.

Poor Branch charges $3.00 per day to launch. There is a nice channel from the launch out to open water. It is a little ways. They also sell gas.

I'm in Stemley cove just across the river from you. We go over to Rabbit Branch to eat sometimes. I don't know what happened to the bbq folks from last summer, but the new bbq is not as good.

It's only $3 to launch there but he also charges to leave your car there so it ends up being $5 or $6.

I'm a little confused. Do you go to Poor House or Rabbit branch? We had the BBQ at Poor House last year. It just got too hot to enjoy outside. Haven't been back this year.

Rabbit Branch is now called River's Edge Marina. They don't charge to park, but it is $3.00 to launch. There isn't a BBQ place there, but there is a new cafe called AJ's. The ramps are in good shape, and water is deep enough there to launch large boats. There is a channel out to main body of lake.

Oops, I confused myself. I meant to say we ate bbq at Poor House. :-) We ate there almost every weekend.

That was some of the best we have ever had but those folks are gone and someone else is running that grill there now. BBQ is not near as good, burgers are ok but nothing compared to Clear Creek. I wish there was more to eat on the upper part of the river, not too much to choose from.
