I have heard that APCO is charging $250.00 if you extend your pier any more. Is there anything to this? Also there is a very low spot that is only a foot deep then it is deep enough for our boat to get to our pier. Are we allowed to dig this by hand (no equipment) to make it deep enough?

Have not heard about the charge but would not suprise me.

As far as your shallow spot you should be able to dig and change the terrain around your pier for the safety of your toys. as long as there are no physical alterations to the structure of your pier then APCO should have no sayso.

Does everyone agree? Most specifications relate to the size and placement of piers in relation to your property.

As long as you do not relocate the dirt/mud to your neighbors property or part of the lake you should be fine, especially if you do this my hand.

This low spot I am talking about is across an inlet to about 10 piers and was thinking that if about 20 of us got out there with shovels and buckets and carried the dirt to land they shouldn't have a problem with that. John

I would claim it as dangerous to you personal property (boats-pwc-family) and since you have your neighbors helping the most they will tell you to do is stop.

Good Luck!

You are supposed to get a permit to remove the dirt and I also understand there is a new supervisor that has become overly strict. They won't let my neighbor replace the roof on his aging aluminum boat house. Told him he'd have to tear it all out and then apply for another permit. Also told him he couldn't put a cover on a 4 post gazebo structure on the shore.

Unbelievable.

All that being said, you and your neighbors might be better off just planning a weekend together moving some dirt. Don't ask, don't tell.
