The last flood was in the spring of 2003. It flooded twice that year as a matter of fact. The flood before that was in the spring of 1997. This was a major event. We experienced very low levels last year in late August and September. The year before that we had an abundance of water. It stayed at or above full pool all summer. That was great. Only rain will end this drought as we all know, but I do beleive APCO could do a much better job of mananging our lakes and rivers.

I agree with the better management of the levels of everyones lake. While I am biased towards Logan Martin I do believe that lake levels should be held as full as possible and the Hydro Electric source of energy should only be used when necessary. APCO has already stated that they do not need the Hydro Energy and that they have enough energy to get us through the heat wave.

I say let the lakes fill naturally and while I am fine with it not being "full pool" I wish it was closer to full than Winter Pool. In my opinion APCO let too much water out at the beginning of the summer and because of the drought was never able to recover the levels.

While I do not necessarily wish for a flood I do hope we have excessive rain over the winter to make '08 Great.

I will still be out this weekend playing where I can, Hope to see you all!

For those that know, help us new to the lakers out.

Suppose we do get a flood. How do we handle it? I was told not to try to screw the deck boards down on my pier so that a flood would take the boards, but leave the pier structure. Any advice or helpful knowledge would be great.

Of course, it's all just thinking at this point but I guess it pays to be prepared.

Peace,
<><

I heard it makes a MESS in the lake after the waters reside similar to when the waters first rise in the spring and all of the crap is floating in the river for a few weeks.

The old man I bought my place from said the it does indeed leave a mess in the lake. He said there is as much submerged debris, as there is floating. It also has a tendency to change the channel depths due to the water rushing down to the dam & spillway. The creeks & slews are all lined with debris. The flood plane at my place comes up to within 3 feet of my deck.

in response to the question of boards on the piers, some folks put weight on their piers to keep em in the ground, such as concrete blocks, wheel barrels full of something that want float off ( only if passing boats wakes want tip it over ), We had a great quiet time yesterday just riding sea doo from the dam to I-20, quiet because until around 5 i didn't see a single boat..... How have you been David looks like it will be a slow weekend and we may finally run into each other.

Also, everyone that posts after this, when you submit your post and get an error it still posts, thats why the past few posts have been duplicated.

We will be there this weekend, but will be gone the next 2 weekends. The water keeps dropping, but we'll still have fun. Probably be in the Clear Creek area most of the time, but will definately ride to the cliffs. Hope to catch some of you soon. We may even be at Pier 59 for some shrimp Saturday. Question... if a flood does destroy our pier, will we have to get a permit from APCO to rebuild, or is it grandfathered in?

I THINK YOU HAVE TO HAVE A NEW PERMIT...DIDN'T THE ENGINEERS LET THE WATER FLOOD OVER LOGAN MARTIN DAM ONE TIME??

Based on what I've heard about the newer shore line managers they would probably require a new one. I would hope they wouldn't charge the ridiculous $300 something it has gone up to again though.

I'm about to the point with those guys that if I don't extend out into the water anymore than I currently am, I think I'll just make whatever changes on my pier.

Thanks for the info - hopefully we won't have to worry about flooding for a long time. But then again, I never expected a record setting drought either...
