Just found this place on the web - it looks like it's pretty active place to chat with other homeowners / lake goers here on Logan Martin.

I am glad we finally have an outlet for our frustration for APCO. My dog sure hates it when he get's kicked everytime I walk out to the dock and check the water level. :o)

Anyone know a nice rain dance we can practice for next year?

welcome... we are all crazy, but we're harmless. The rain dance didn't work for this year, but we're working on next year now. It is customary for the newcomer to buy lunch for the rest of the group.. where should we meet?

HURRICANE????????????

Welcome to the Forum, what part of the lake are you on? I am on the Talladega side about 3 miles from the dam.

Feel free to vent about APCO they have changed their preddictions to 459 by Sept 1 and that is downright horrible when the lakes above and below are full pool.

Yeah... yeah.... Customs are customs so I guess it's "hot dogs" and cold beers at my place.... just pull up to the dock.... :o)

Oh that's right there's no water for you to get to the dock.... have to call in a "rain check". :o)

We live up near Poorhouse - if you see the Neon Gas sign you are almost there.

I have double the wishings, we also do the transportation for FEMA and while I feel bad for wishing for a Hurricane it brings the most important need to us all.........

RAIN!!!!

Hot dogs & cold beer sounds pretty good. Since we can't get to your pier, we'll have to drive. Would it be closer by road, or by driving on the lake bed?

Please dont use the"H" word. Wish instead for a "tropical storm". Dean was upgraded to a "H" this morning and is headed west .
We love LM and have been here for years but we are moving to our place at Gulf Shores next month. Luckily our house survived Ivan and Katrina so I'm sure you will understand our reluctance to use the "H" word!!

Trust me I use the H word for purely selfish reasons. I do not wish destruction on anyone. Plus it would all be G Bush's fault anyway.

Good luck on your move, is that permanent? are you moving vacation/weekender or permanent residence on the coast?

We were actually in Destin looking at property when we found our house on LM> and have been very happy with our choice.

Good Luck!!!

Well, the water has gone up a smidgen - 461.1 today from 460.8 on Tuesday. I can still get my boat out of the marina (Rabbit Branch) and ski down to 459 but wouldn't want to try to get to the house (near the cliffs).

Y'all seen pictures of Lake Martin? They're really hurtin'. The lack of water must have affected their mood - that's a pretty contentious board.
Most of the people I know with houses there haven't been able to get their boats out for over a month.

We are making GS our primary home but we will still have our "weekend" place here. If the "H's" come toward GS we will have a place to go!!
We have been on LM for many years and I think this summer has been the most dissappointing I can remember: Back in March when the water was at full pool I thought this is great, we will have 7-8 months of good boating. Boy was I mistaken!!

We bought our house right about a year ago.

When we looked at the house it was full pool and then we put a contract on it and came back a few weeks later and it was down 3 feet and we were like what the $#@!. So we have not really known anything but the low water levels. It almost looked flooded to us in April.

We still feel this is one of the best choices we have ever made.

Good luck with your move and stay on the board to tell us how the beach is.

I'm like you Steve. This is my second summer and I haven't seen a full pool year yet. But if you dig around the weather history, it won't be that way forever. Just scroll down to where we were all talking about flooding.

When I first looked at my place in late summer of '05, it was pretty close to full. I didn't even have a pier last summer so it didn't really bother me too much. But this year, built a pier, bought a boat and trying to enjoy the lake.

But still, I'd rather be here than anywhere else on earth. We went to Orange Beach a couple of weekends ago. And while we had a great time, I couldn't help but think, especially at sunset, "this is nice, but I have a great sunset view at home that I really like better." Now the fresh seafood was a different story.

I pullin for a nice, week long tropical rain storm. That 10 plus inches they are getting in Texas would be really nice around here. As for is it wrong to wish for something like that. Just remember what your grandmother told you. "Be careful what you pray for...you just might get it!"

Peace,
<><

Just past it.

You turm on Davis Acres and follow around like going to Waters Edge but turn to the low rent section. Point Aquarius is the legal name of the sub D.

By water it is in the slough where the Octogon wood house sits on the hill.

But it is just past East Winds.

Not new to forum but first year at LM. Was delighted in April to see full pool and have been suffering through it ever since. I am going to have to put trailer over wall to get Jet skis to the water to get them out. Oh well there's always next year.

Yea you can almost throw a rock and hit Alpines back nine from where we are.

Property values are going through the roof everywhere, they are building 3 HUGE houses in Waters Edge now that we are trying to find out the price tag on.

Are property values going way up on Lay?

Yeah, theres a 250 home development going up about 3 miles from my place and then about 4 miles down river there's a 150 home development...The Talladega side was pretty undeveloped until these projects , they'll cover about 5 miles of shoreline...So to answer your question- I purchased my place as a foreclosure for $170000..2 kitchens, 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, inground pool and bbq pavilion..I've made some improvements (Metal roof, siding-nothing too expensive)...I've been there 3.5 years and it now appraises for $280000...After the developments I expect it to be in the $350-$400000 range...Can't sell and cash in, prices on Logan Martin are too high and we won't even talk about Martin..

Yea Martin and Smith are way out of what we were trying to do.

I feel that we got in at the right time. There are houses around us 1500 sq ft smaller and the same price if not more so we are extremely happy with what we did.

And our Neighbor is putting his house up for sale if you know of anyone looking.

About May I know several that will be looking...My wife's in nursing school, they get out in May and several of her friends say they will be looking for a home on the lake at that time...How much is he asking?? My parents are looking at moving to the lake..

When we were looking, I found a place around Shelby that was 2 log houses, gently sloping lot with lots of pines and a couple of out buildings and if I remember, about 3 acres. 125k. But my wife wouldn't even look at it. Years ago there was a lot of noise about the polution from what was then KC in Lay Lake. I think Lay is probably one of the nicest in Alabama as far as shoreline and water. Now with the water situation, I think we both wonder about that decision.

But...I love it here on Logan Martin. My lot is steep, but I don't have to worry about flooding. We're in a great place as far as fire protection and insurance rates. And property values are whatever they are going to be. I have year round water (sort of, as much as possible given the drought) and the best sunset view of anywhere I have ever been and trust me, I've seen lots of great sunsets.

I used to keep a cuddy cabin boat on Martin. Never had to worry about yard work or building a pier or anything. We'd just anchor in a cove and we were home for the weekend. And if we didn't like that cove, we could go to another the next night. But as more houses went up, deserted coves got hard to find and some people, not many, thought we were camped on their property even though we were 250 feet from anybodies pier. But my gosh, I have less in my house, lot and boats than most lots alone on that lake. Where will it stop? Martin was nice. And you could ride all day and never see all the shoreline. But wow, Logan Martin rocks and it's nowhere near as crowded...yet.

Last time I rode south, I noticed the clearing south of the cliffs on the St. Clair side. Whats happening there? Also, anybody catch the article in todays local paper about Lincoln Harbor auctioning the condos?

Gotta run to town and then I'm hitting the pier. C ya.

not 100% on the price yet. I heard 399 but it has 2 lots and do not know if the secod lot is included in that, if it is the lot by itself is $125-$150.

I saw him out this morning and will ask him later today.

Yea I saw the clearing last week on the St CLair side but have not heard what that is. I heard that they were going to put up like 4 condo buildings around the corner toward the civic center from there but maybe that is where it is going.

oh well I bet the Auctioning is because they are having a hard time selling>?>?>?>?> Who knows????
