I read in the B'ham news today that the rest of this year, and next spring will be dry due to El Nina. APCO has already said that the reservoirs will most likely remain below full pool next year as well. All lakes from Weiss on down were listed... except Lay Lake. Let's hope they are wrong on this one. Be careful on the water this weekend. Maybe we'll cross paths.

I'LL HAVE TO LOOK FOR THIS ARTICLE...I GUESS WE GET TO KEEP OUR WATER DUE TO THE STEAM PLANT...HAVE TO HAVE THE WATER FOR COOLING PURPOSES SO THEY DON'T KILL EVERYTHING WITHIN 5 MILES WITH THE HOT WATER DISCHARGE...HOPE WE GET SOME RAIN SO YOU GUYS CAN GET YOUR WATER BACK, BUT IF NOT, YOU'RE ALWAYS WELCOME TO COME DOWN HERE..

Predictions are for the birds. Bottom line is NO ONE knows the future and while the future looks dry, any hurricane hitting MS-AL coast and we will gain 5-10 inches of rain.

APCO basically is in control of our recreation not Mother Nature.

APCO Question.......If the water release has been adjusted so that the water levels will remain constant during the drought, then when it rains, WHY do you let extra water out instead of stay at your current rate of release?

All Summer long we have had very little rain and in general the levels have stayed consistent within a few inches. during July we had a decent amount of rain but every time it does rain and the level rises APCO lets the water right back out to the level before the rain.

If Gov Riley was going to go to court over something, go after APCO and keep the levels of ALL lakes at or near full pool. This would cause all of us to go back to griping about gas prices and the taxes collected on fuel bought and used on the water would increase 10fold.

It would cause the property values to rise which would inturn cause more taxes to flow into the state so we can return to griping about property taxes and how the GOVERNMENT misuses our good money and how all politicians are worthless.

APCO should keep all levels at or near full pool and use the Hydro Power only as an emergency resort. APCO has already stated that they do not need the power, thaat they already have suffecient hydro power and it is not needed at this time.

WOW - Sorry, I don't know where all of that came from, I am going back into my hole now.

AMEN!

What puzzles me is why is Logan Martin and our friends on Martin the ones suffing so much? It looks to me like we (including Martin) have the most population. Are closest to the major metro areas. Have the larger tax bases. ( cities for shopping, dining ect.) Yet, we have the least water.

Please don't take offense Worm. I love Lay Lake. Spent many happy days there as a youth and looked for a home I wanted there before I found one on Logan MArtin. And I have many many firends with great places on Lay. But do the math. There are many miles of shoreline on Lay with no houses. You're hard pressed to find a consecutive mile on Logan Martin or Martin without a large expensive house.

Steve is right. Seems to me it would make far more sense to keep the water levels full year round. Why can't Logan Martin and Martin be "run of the river" too?

Peace,
<><

Botton line this is apco's lake and they will do what ever they want and could care less about the tax base on the lake. I think they should have not sold the land around the lake if they were going to to have total disregard about the people on the lake. About diggging in the lake you might do some reserch on the pcb's dumped years ago.PCB"S never go away they are just 3 feet under the mud now so if you dig to deep you might find them.

They can't all be run of the river. That's the point of having designated reservoirs for flow control, turbine churning, downstream requirements all year, etc....

I'm certainly as bummed as anyone else and would not say APCO has done a great job of managing the resource or coming up with good alternatives. However, saying that all of the lakes should stay at full pull, all of the time, just is not realistic.
