Someone may have already posted the contacts and General Guidelines for anyone new and that might have questions here they are:

Logan Martin Lake
Alabama Shoreline Management
John B. Ledbetter - Regional Coordinator
(205) 472 - 0481
(205) 472 - 0482 Fax

Today we have 2 full time inspectors. News to me!

Tammy works Logan Martin. I met her today...... while I was digging out around my pier with a mini excavator....... :o) Not a friendly conversation to say the least.....

Post if you want her number.....I am putting it in all the bathroom stalls around the lake with the saying "for a hard time call" :o)

Are you in an area that she could see you by just riding by?

Do you have a tatletale in the neighborhood?

Is she going to let you get a permit and continue?

Just curious>?>?>?>?>?>?>?

She can see down in our slew if she's driving by - I think someone down the way is looking to build a new dock - so I might have been caught by them requesting a permit. I am building a new house so there's a lot of construction going on and I think it's just my bad luck that she just happend by....

That being said - no she wants me to put it all back in the hole that I dug. There's an apeal process but not much of one....

Did she give you a time line or ultimatum? What happens if you don't? They've done some strange things lately. They told my neighbor he couldn't put a roof on an open sided structure in his yard because it's in the flood plane. I didn't think that would be within their "bounds" to dictate that. He just wanted a place to put some lawn chairs and sit out closer to the water.

Also told him in order to fix the rickety corrugated metal boat house that is practically falling in he'd have to tear it all the way out and then they "might" give him a permit to put one back up. So evidently it's ok to have a rusty metal structure falling into the lake, but it's not ok to put a new roof and sides on it.

I told him to wait until January and they'd probably never know the difference.
Go figure.

THE WHOLE DEAL WITH THE ROOF ON THE BUILDING IN A FLOOD PLANE IS BOGUS...I HAVE A PAVILLION AS DO ALL OF MY NEIGHBORS AND THEY ARE IN A FLOOD PLANE..APCO DICTATES SHORELINE AND OUT, THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS AS TO WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR OWN YARD..TELL THE INSPECTOR TO [blank] OFF!!!

No - there was no timeframe given - I had less than a dump truck full so I just filled in holes behind my seawall (you can do that) and then put most of it back as close to the wall as I could manage - leaving a better grade where I needed (if it was full pool). The excavator will be gone the next time she gets back here and I will be out of luck if it doesn't meet with her expectations. I doubt there's a fine warranted or involved unless you are a contractor.

I asked about docks that were falling down - I have one as well - several of the piles of my dock have eroded away and are almost 2x4's at the base where nice 6x6's were. Her response was if it's a safety hazard then a permit is required to work on the structure (so I went ahead and applied for a permit to repair - which is different from the $250 permit to construct)

Since I am completely dry right now - I am buying new piles tomorrow - digging a hole where the old ones were and installing.

An enclosed boat house is no longer allowed - no closed in sides screened in porches are OK but no walls - no structures in the flood plane (467') - no attached piers to campers in the flood plane - no fire pits in the flood plane - no storage. The permit has all the specifics.

Boat houses /Piers/wet slips cannot exceed 800sq ft - less the 2' wide walkway.

Bottom line - it's still up to interpretation - depending on Tammy's and Ledbetter's mood.

We will keep you secret safe here Worm.........

Personally I feel that you should be able to do whatever you want on your property, flood plain or not. APCo should only have a say so when it extends into THEIR lake.
